No Turning signs.
Discussion
Quite frequently I see signs in people's drives - and even at the end of a small cul-de-sac near my house saying "no turning".
There's a guy near where I work who has gone as far as having a bats
t mental blackboard with some stuff about charging £20 a wheel for people turning on his drive.
I can understand people not wanting drivers parking on their drives, but turning: is it really such a big deal?
I guess it would get to me if it was happening all the time, but a lot of them are in fairly innocuous places.

Youd be surprised how many people go down what look to be innocuous places, turn around in a driveway rather than an extra 50yds to a turning, mess up the turnaround and take out the gatepost/ fence/anything that's parked nearby/ make a trench in the front lawn and drive off as if they haven't noticedThere's a guy near where I work who has gone as far as having a bats

3 point turn that takes you over the pavement is fine, once you cross the boundary onto someone's property is why you see these signs. There's a guy near where I work who has gone as far as having a bats

If it was a garden or a drive with gates would you open the gates or bash down the wall to assist you in turning?
The drive is their property not anyone else, and should only be used by the home owner not anyone that feels it will make life easier. There is also the probability of their car dropping oil or indeed as happened a few years ago next to me where someone in the snow used the drive to turn and lost control and hit the house. Would it have happened if they had done a 3 point turn?
i've replied to these type of threads before so here goes again...
I live in a cul de sac with a proper turning point at the bottom. Everyday drivers enter our street and can't be bothered to drive the extra 50m to the proper turning point so choose to turn in peoples driveways.
For a start most driveways arent designed to deal with the volume or the weight of delivery vehicles. 2nd, most of the drivers are
s who drive on the grass, drive on the plants, knock over plant pots, etc, etc.
The no turning signs are there because some folk think its acceptable to do a 3pt turn on somebody's garden.

and one of my neighbours got so pissed off with it he's got a big wooden plank with nails through it which he sits at the end of his drive.
He's snared a few folk with that.
OTT you may say but the final straw for him was a foreign lorry driver wrecking his front garden and the police saying they cant do anything about it.

They seem pointless as it's obvious that no one wants people turning in their driveways.
May as well put up a sign saying "No s
tting"
I recently moved to the Countryside and widened my driveway as I turn in with large trailers etc.
I now get at least 3 people turning in my entrance everyday - some even drive down the 50m drive and turn at the top !
Perhaps I ought to try a sign.

Round my way the flippin locals decide the "proper turning point" is their own private parking area. Which doesn't help at all.Drive Blind said:

To be fair if you take a wrong turn out in the sticks on an NSL road, safe places to turn around are few and far between. Although driving all the way up your drive is a bit fMay as well put up a sign saying "No s

I live in a Close and delivery drivers/taxi drivers often put the front or rear of their vehicle onto my driveway to make it easier for them to turn around. I didn't realise it was supposed to bother me though.
It's not doing any harm as far as I can see.
I also keep forgetting to have a fit when somebody parks in front of my house.

By the Horton Inn.
I really don't think he's having a laugh...

The gravel where that sign is, is part of the verge, the verge is part of the road, so hes asking for money for what you can do anyway. The gravel within the driveway is a different matter. He needs to reword the sign and move it in a yard/metre or use a different type of gravel to show the line between the road ( not the carriageway) and the drive
