2nd car advice
Discussion
Hi since selling my jag, I am looking for a 2nd car to the cerb. choices are Mercedes slk mk1, audi tt mk1 or e46 330 bmw. I know what some people think about the first two, but they have grown on me recently. anyone has experience of any of those please let me know. interested in ease of ownership mainly. driving experience comes second as I have the cerb for that
General comment, as I don't know if you are looking for a daily driver, or work in London.
Of those three I would choose the BMW, and have it as an estate version.
It's just so handy having a car that can shift stuff. And carry passengers.
I have even kept a battered 15 year old Merc ML, resale value nil, as an extra car for it's flexibility - dirty dog carrying, load lugging and 3.5 tonne towing capabilities.
I am collecting a 68kg garage tent next week - the estate car would have no problem, but any saloon car would struggle.

thanks for the comments, guys, i own a ml430 7 seater that the wife drives (had to be a v8 after the e430 estate!) and have had an octavia 1.8t 4x4 in the past which was great. just want something to commute 2/3 times a week that is comfortable, looks good, wont break the bank, and goes ok as well. not bothered with practicality etc
I commute in the latest type Celica and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Indestructible engine, stonkingly reliable everything else, looks good, fun to chuck about, squeezes in tight spaces, comfortable and enough power to be entertaining. Fuel economy is listed as 46mpg max, but I get 75-80mpg because of the fact I waited for one that had an LPG conversion fitted. Even with that benefit, 2 years ago it only cost me £1500 and I've done 90,000 miles in it, only having to change the brake pads and a (very cheap) clutch which had covered 180,000 miles, so I can forgive it that.
If you are interested, go for a 190bhp vvtli version and avoid pre-2003 140vvti versions.

The problem with the SLK will be tin worm. If you can find one without they're nice cars and quicker than many think - especially the 320s. Hardtop is a benefit in winter too.
TT is terminally dull in my experience. Very capable but as exciting as a screwdriver to use.
I'd probably plumb for a Z4 in either 2.5 or 3.0 guise or hang on for that immaculate SLK320 thats out there somewhere.
