£2'000 to play with what 150MPH plus "Junior" Supercars can I get? Porsche 928 at a push with alot of hard work searching the classifieds. Then theres the XJR supersaloon that should be in budget. Any others cheap enough or is £2'000 ridiculous?

There's probably a number of high powered saloon cars in budget that will do 150mph but they are in no way "junior supercars". I suspect the closest you'll get is something like a ropey MR2 turbo.

Does 2 grand get you something you would want to do 150 mph in?

Bare in mind a decent set of tyres can cost half that.

Well go for it? You still have running cost each year.

Each to there own, R129 supercar maybe for you but in general for many not.

As for me, would not put it in that class myself.

Goodluck.

This! I would be very reluctant to travel at even 100mph in a car I had just paid £2k for!

I don't know about today. But I'd have thought so. In 1999 when I was 19 I paid £700 for a 5.3 V12 Jag XJ-S. It was awesome. On a non public road we saw an indicated 156mph.

Is this a joke thread following on from the £25k junior super car thread earlier today?

I paid less than that for my current little car, a few years and miles ago.

Done more than 100 on a few occasions, on my way down to Duffus (first corner at Knockhill)

Mechanically it's in good shape, and it's designed to go faster than that, so it's no problem.
Bought a golf for £300 that saw 100mph, bmw for £800 that did too, private track of course.

That really is quite a dumb ignorant reply.

Really? You would be surprised at some of the ste some people try to Palm off to hapless car hunters.I'd certainly want it to have a good check over by a mechanic or at least a very recent MOT before I attemted it!

Have you seen some of the cars 2K can buy you? 05, 06, 07 plates etc..

But then I wouldn't think twice about having a 100+ mph blast in an older Volvo T5, a V8 Jag or a Honda Civic etc anyway.A death trap will probably still kill you at 70 mph, so you may aswell go out with a bang.

Get a T5 V70 Volvo, OP.
Not many supercars can do 150 mph with a shed in the back from B&Q.

Sorry, but that is still a ludicrous and ignorant thing to say. An MoT proves nothing about a cars worthiness to do 100mph either.

Well, each to their own. I did say that 'I' as in 'me' would be very reluctant to travel at 100mph let alone 150mph in a car that I had just paid £2k for. Whether you or anyone else would I honestly couldn't care less.

And I do apologise to anyone I have offended who does actually drive around in a £2k shed.......because quite clearly I have!

I paid £1300 for my 4.0 supercharged V8 Jaguar XJR from a car auction. I got it into triple figures the same day after checking the tyres, pressures etc.

It sat at 140 odd for quite a while a few months later, 5 up and a full boot with no issues.

My £1400 VR4 has nudged close to an indicated 150.

Not all sub £2k cars are death traps but as always YMMV and neither of those two cars are supercars. The XJR could be classed as a supersaloon but that's about it.

Pickings are getting very slim now for the busget, but the closest thing you'll get to a "supercar" is through a Jap twin turbo coupe.

Things like soarers, 300ZXs and GTOs. Back in the day they were often compared to far more exotic machinery and weren't too far off in terms of driving dynamics and performance and of course usually more on the table if you're open to the idea of modifying.

2k should get you a half decent automatic example of any of the above.

1st thing I thought when I read this was 'Audi driver'.

I have done plenty of hillclimbs in my sub £2k Clio 172, I have died a horrible death each & every time & don't even get me started on the children, think of the children, and the kittens rolleyes
