New car suggestions

Hi all,

Sorry about the long post, so in summary I'm looking for suggestions for a quick, fun car that isn't horribly impractical.

Up until now I've been driving Focus and Corsa's, etc. Now I want to take to plunge and buy myself a "nice", "quick" car. I have a budget of 10-15k ish.

Generally, I only drive a few miles during the week so I'm looking for a fun car for the weekend, that I might want to take around a track on occasion but also needs to be relatively usable (so not a kit car!) every day.

Because I don't use the car that often I'd find it hard to justify huge tax or running costs, so trying to keep engine below 2l

At the moment I'm thinking along the lines of an Elise S2, but I'd appreciate people's opinions on the Elise and alternatives and the pros and cons of each based on people's experiences.

For example, I've also been thinking about an S2k, or potentially a Clio 197.

I don't get it when someone wants to spend £15k on a car but with low running costs as invariably there are plenty of fantastic sub £10k cars with higher running costs - but you've saved a load of money on purchase price, and you'll probably end up with a nicer car as a result.

I'd personally go for something with a min. of 3 litres, if it's only for mostly weekend use thats an opportunity to own something interesting without worrying about an enormous fuel bill commuting!

Unfortunately I'm living in Ireland where the annual car tax for "big engined" cars, >2 litres can easily be €2000!!
