Hi guys,

I've just bought a Range Rover classic for an off-road project. I know it's a 1991 and I have the VIN but there are no number plates on it, the previous owner had lost the v5. None of the VINs have had any attempt to be hidden or changed so I'm confident there is no foul play.

Is there a way of using the VIN to trace back?

Thanks in advance

Write to DVLA explaining why you don't know the registration number and enclosing a V62 with as much information as possible filled in.

Is it old enough that the Heritage Trust (or whatever it is called) would have the details?

Has the previous owner lost V5 & all mots & all insurance docs & service records & also his memory? scratchchin Sounds a bit odd to me.

Did think this would be brought up. smile

It had been converted a good few years ago for off-roading so may even just have been registered as scrap as the body is that rotten it'll never see the road again, I have several bills relating to the car such as reciepts for off-roading equipment such as springs updated steering arms and a very eye watering bill for the LPG kit. But none of these have a registration on them. It has been on the local club scene for a number of years and so has the gentleman I bought it from, he is actually coming to my first local trial with his Disco off-roader, so I am fairly confident there is no foul play.

Either way, an HPI will reveal if there is!

If it's not going on the road again why do you need the registration? I know people who nick cars will use the details from a scrapped car to avoid detection but I assume that's not happening here?

You mean ringing? Nope, it's just a bit of a curiosity, I'd like to put plates on it when I'm trialling because for some reason I think it looks slightly more professional and less smiddy made as we say around here.

Like I say it's mainly for the curiosity factor, if I can't get anyone to do it, it's not the end of the world smile

can no one in the club remember the reg ? or the owner of many years ?

seems a bit strange he cant remember the reg of a vehicle he owned for years.

He bought it from the club, I don't mean he has had it for years, but yeah there's an address for the guy who bought a lot of the off-road stuff, I'll get in contact with him.
