I have thought of a number plate I would like to buy and having searched on all the usual sites the exact one is not available, similar ones are but not the one I want. Having looked online it doesn't appear to be on a car so I presume its sat on retention or similar?

Bit of a long shot but is there any way of obtaining this plate? I have seen a few companies offering a similar service but got no reply once I contacted them.

Thanks in advance

It's possible that it hasn't been released (or previously released, then scrapped) and so the DVLA own it. You can ask them to release it for auction - worth a try...

Might be worth giving the DVLA a bell.
Reg I want is: MC13ANJ, Mclean being my surname.. 14 is available but the 13 is better suited in my opinion.

Paging the stplates thread...

Seriously, if I saw "MC13 ANJ" (or MC14 ANJ), I'd assume it was just a random plate. I certainly wouldn't go "Oooh, bet that's his name. Truly, he must be a God amongst men."

Anyway, looks like it's never been issued, so if you really ask nicely, DVLA might put it into their next auction. At least there's unlikely to be much competition, so you'd probably get it for the basic £250.

It sold on 21 February 2013, so it's probably still on retention.
And no it's not possible to find out who to!

I'd like the plate PUG11 however, it seems to not exist frown
