European Breakdown Cover

I'm looking at taking out European breakdown cover for the year to cover my trip to Europe next month.
Using compare the market, there are a few options such as Rescue My Car, QDOS, Allianz & Start Rescue to name a few. I've read about Start Rescue and ruled it out as they don't actually support you on the roadside and you need to use an SOS phone.

Can anyone recommend me a company to use, that won't charge to much? Looking at about £65 for cover. Cover through my insurance is £95 I think and I'm tempted to get that so it's all in one place, but £30 saving is still a £30 saving.

Advise please?

I used to pay for ADAC, but never used it, but last year found comparable cover with AXA for about £55 for the year.

Another vote for ADAC here. Plus they will cover you via the AA in the UK also.

I use Footman James - £85 for roadside and recovery in the EU including the UK for 12 months.
Only thing is your car needs to be at least 15 years old.

Thank you, will google that company and see what I can get. My car is a 2009 model so hoping it won't cost too much, plus having a check over the car by Litchfields the day before the trip so I'm hoping I won't breakdown, but failing to plan is planning to fail and all that..

I just checked the policy as its in my car in the garage. £66 all in for 12 month full home rescue European cover. Their website doesn't seem to list anything comparable at the same sort of price. Worth calling though as I initially got a web quote then updated via phone. I think the web one only gives you limited time Euro cover from memory.

I had a policy with Aviva which i got my moneys worth with last year.

Was £70 for 2 weeks, when my S2000 broke down in Austria (head gasket).

They agreed to transport my car back home, even though there local agent/garage was willing to fix it.

Paid for a hire car (BMW 120D) which i could use for the rest of my euro drive, and could leave in Germany.

Paid 100 euro expense for a hotel that night as i was late leaving after getting the hire car sorted.

Then paid for a BA flight from Germany back to Heathrow at a time/date of my choice.

Paid for a hire car (a god awful Fiat 500L) to get me from airport back home, and for a week afterwards.

My only complaint was they got Nurburg and Nuremburg mixed up, and booked my flight from Munich, which i didn't realise at the time was the other end of Germany so had another long drive!


But i got good value for my £70 and very good service.

Worth considering a Nationwide FlexPlus account at £10/month that includes European cover, WW travel, phone insurance etc, plus 5% on the first £2500 (that's £125 worth of interest). No need for it to be main current account. Just open online and enjoy. All quality cover so a real no brainer.
