Hello just a quick question, I want to run some Cataclean through my engine but it says to drive for 15km or however long, I don't have an mot on the car so am curious if I can run Cataclean through the engine not under load, I will just sit there and Rev it for a good 20 minutes or so

Any reason why you feel the need to do this?

From the looks of it, a nice long motorway journey at a reasonable speed, on premium fuel, would provide as much benefit.

It's probably a lot safer to let the car idle and run it through the system. If you were driving the car when the cataclean hits the engine, the sudden increase of 150bhp would catch you off guard and may cause you to lose control of the car and crash.

From things I have read it is quite an effective product so I want to try it, as you can see in the original post I don't have an mot so a motorway drive isn't really an option

Basically just thinners in a bottle.

Removes fuel lacquer from components to help them work better.

You definitely shouldn't book an MOT at a random garage 15KM away 'because they're the only ones with a convenient appointment', drive down the motorway to get there so your cataclean can work, but 'break down' and not turn up to the appointment. If BiB pulled you, you're on your way to a pre-booked MOT quite legally; but since you never manage to arrive it costs you nothing. Naughty. Definitely don't do that. hehe

coming back to this thread.

I put a bottle of cataclean into the DD's Ford Ka ( 65k mile ) and within 20 mins of running the stop/start system started working! We've had the car 2 years and it's always thrown up a 'stop/start' fault when stopped in traffic and in neutral. I suspect the car had never previously seen the benefit of a fuel treatment like this.

The acid test is to try it on my other DD's newly acquired and similar age/mileaged Ka, with the same fault and see if it fixes that as well.

Cataclean works as they say it does

I've been using it for years and nearly always helps get a marginal case through the MOT

Yes, it will do. But not because it "cleans the cat" or "works as they say it does".

Once you've added it to a low tank and run it through the system for a few miles, you're not running on straight petrol (or diesel) any more, you're running on a mixture of petrol and Cataclean. This mixture runs cleaner than straight fuel, that's why the emission figures are better. It certainly hasn't cleaned out the complete fuel system as they claim.

And the petrol version and diesel version are exactly the same.
