Wasn't there a cheapo Saab 9-3 that was based on a basic Impreza shell with the Saab front end grafted on anyway?

Probably a front end off a Saab 9-2x, a badge engineered Subaru Impreza estate.

Yes. Other than the lambo doors that's a regular American production car. Think they called it the 9-2

In the US and Canada they sell (or used to sell) a Saab 9-2 based on the Subaru Impreza. Basically an Impreza with a Saab front and rear end
https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&am...

They also made a Saab 9-7 SUV based on a GMC/Chevrolet

Never knew about any of these. You learn something new every day. Having owned an Impreza & currently a Saab it's quite interesting seeing the 2 patched together!

Me neither - every day's a school day! I'm surprised how well the two blend together, I'm noticing traits from each that I hadn't before. Nice post fooby.

At least it's not a 9-5 with a flat 4 and a huge rear spoiler.

This is the comment it was in.

Never knew about the Sabbaru in the US, that's pretty cool. Also explains how a Saab front end fits on an Impreza.

Bloody scissor doors though, what a waste of money.

I remember when they were all the rage on the Max Power cars, used to be advertised in the magazines for £1000+ just for the set of hinges..
