This afternoon returning from Exeter I approached a roundabout in the RH lane signalling right to make a right hand turn. A very large lorry coming towards the roundabout from the opposite direction, drove onto the roundabout while I was on it and forced me to stop while he went across it. He gave me a wave, which I can't decide was an acknowledgement or sarcasm.

(If you think of the points of the compass, I entered the roundabout from South to exit at East, while the lorry entered at North to exit at South.)

I've got the lorry's number and I know its a local firm, so I can email the transport manager and dob the driver in , or I can tweet a complaint. I can't decide whether to or not, it wasn't anything more than irritating really although it was poor driving from a so-called professional driver.

I open it to the PH massive for debate

Why do you need advice on this? Surely you have more important things to worry about.

This is PH, a place for debate. Just starting a conversation, you don't have to join in if you don't want to

Quoted 'cos...

My take on it - FF'sS move on with your life. You write that it "wasn't anything more than irritating..." and yet you're thinking of contacting the driver's manager! Dear god, how did we reach this pathetic state...

I'm afraid Crediton is a ghastly place in every way, lucky you got out alive and not inbred. If you go to Waitrose this sort of thing won't happen

I did want to join in. I wanted to try and understand why you would need to get advice on this "issue". All seems rather petty to me, but your call I guess.

(Feel free to report me if you like, I can tell you like doing so)

He made a very minor cock up, which inconvenienced you for two seconds. He apologised. Nobody's dead.

I'm inclined to agree, although I was distinctly unimpressed by having to make an emergency stop in the middle of a roundabout.

He didn't look to see what was on the roundabout.
You didn't notice him not slowing as he approached the roundabout.

No, I was on it as he approached and he didn't slow at all, as far as I could see. He straight-lined it in front me, so I had no choice but to do a crash stop.

OK, so you saw him approaching and not slowing... then expected him to suddenly stop dead? Because, otherwise, you wouldn't have needed to do a crash stop, because you'd have been expecting him to just tonk straight on. Wouldn't you?

I wouldn't for what sounds like a cock-up because that could be any one of us.

If I felt they were driving aggressively to the point where they were a danger to other road users I'd consider it, though I've never done it, but for a mistake, just move on IMO.

I saw him approaching and expected him to give way as I was on the roundabout and had precedence. Next thing is he's shot across my bows. I didn't have any choice but to stop quickly. Are you implying I'm to blame?

I've never reported anyone either. I'm inclined to think that he made a mistake and chalk it down to experience.
