Is there a cheaper alternative to Hpi check?

There appear to be a number of companies who can do an HPI check on your prospective car but are they any good? Are they all compiling their own databases or sharing a national one?

Who would you recommend?

Not really, if you want a proper check then pay either HPI or Experian the money.
The cheapo checks are exactly that, not worth bothering with (they are not checking against the full finance files that HPi/Experian are using).
