I've never really been one for being a snob, believing that there is a little bit of good in everyone even if they've fallen into little less than perfect circumstances, until last night.

I live in Cardiff bay, so a nice area, last night we visited the circus, which is in Ely, ok not the best area but it's hardly bagdad or as bad as some other council places in the country. Ive never had any problems anywhere I've parked the car before, but as soon as I venture into Ely, I came back to having my car vandalised and damaged, for a poxy diffuser worth about £100!

You may think oh you park a flash car in a poor area and you deserve it, but the car is only a fiesta ST and it was broad day light (6-7pm) and I parked next to another fiesta

Totally disgusting, no wonder these people have a bad reputation, because they are worse than pond scum.

This is the damage:

They turned the car on its side?

There are some nasty people out there!

Ex Cardiff person here.

Ely is a st hole. Parked up a Mondeo there years ago to come out to the stereo having been nicked. That said, if it was done in daylight, this is a new low!

There's been a fair amount of theft of car parts etc lately - Fiestas seem especially common (nick the bits from an ST for your crappy LX model).

Wonder if there was any CCTV around? Also watch out in Cardiff Bay - it's an ok area but around Lloyd George Avenue can be a bit dodgy (mate of mine had a bike nicked from a bike locker there) and it's not unheard of to have some crime (there was a spate of people being mugged near the train station a few years back).

So one person steals a part from your car, on one occasion, and the whole area and social class is to blame?

This is of course a crime, but to label an entire class and location?

Are you sure someone hasn't just nudged it and the diffuser has come off, they bin the diffuser hoping nobody will notice? I saw one the other day with it missing but i could see it had been hit albeit not hard

What's the white mark just above the missing bit? scratch? Could have been hit as said above, unless that mark was there before.

Looks more like where the diffuser was bonded on and it's been ripped off to me...

Nope, no paint damage, that white mark is a reflection, the diffusers are just clipped on. Had CSI around today who got lots of prints and said they had a spate of fiesta thefts of late.

There's a huge market for cheap ST parts and there have been loads of thefts recently in Cardiff and the surrounding areas. A lot of people want the ST looks without the purchase and running costs so they tart up their TDCI models with with cheap (stolen) ST parts from dodgy Bob on gumtree.

A few weeks back some poor woman had hers liberated of two alloys in the Asda in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil. She had been in the store less than 15 minutes.

This was one of the main reasons I ordered my ST in spirit blue as its a colour unique to the ST. As the parts would have to be sprayed before being fitted to a cooking model there's less chance of them being stolen.

My two sons came from foster parents in Ely. My eldest son had been with them 2 years and the youngest 6 months. Proper people, family people. The same goes for all of their neighbours who came to meet us. Yes, I was surprised but it changed my view on what appear to be poor communities. Of course crime is rife in these places or criminals are bred in these places but in my experience I was humbled.

South Wales. You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Yeah, that'd do it. Appreciate it's not Baghdad so it wasn't rapidly disassembled by someone with at least some rudimentary chemistry, but this looks to be well within their skillset.

As said above Fords are being hit in South Wales recently. You got off lucky compared to others that have been hit.

Ely isn't a nice place day or night. Some nice people don't get me wrong but it's not somewhere you get a good night's sleep and I say this living in llanrumney.

Yes the police woman did say it had happened a lot, they put one gang away but now it's copy cat crimes, also saw someone had their whole front bumper stolen recently! Discusting, these people make me sick.

Was even in a council car park in broad day light ffs

I know someone with an AMG Merc and they had pretty much the entire car nicked, wings, bumpers, lights, bonnet, doors, wheels and seats.

Mental.

I work all over every council estate in Cardiff and have done for the past 15 years. The transformation of Ely over the last few years is incredible. I wouldn't call it ruff at all now, in fact one of the better areas.
Unfortunately there's a massive problem with fiestas and thieves, if I had a fiesta ST I wouldn't park it anywhere in Ely or any other suburb of Cardiff. I saw a fiesta minus its front bumper on a very nice quiet street in the Heath a while back.
Wrong place, wrong time in possibly the wrong car.

Did the council car park have any CCTV?

Hasn't it always been a problem that fast Ford bits get stolen a lot because they can be bolted easily on to cheaper, slower Fords?

Unfortunately yours being the TOTR Fiesta with all the goodies on; its a magnet for the council scum with entry level Fiestas. All those bits will be like a free meal to the lowlife.

Same with other popular hot hatches like Golf Gti and Astra VXR - there is an undercurrent of barry cars waiting to receive the clip on bits from other peoples car.

No, which I did find strange, the police conducted door to door enquires today but nothing yet, have also tweeted the council to find out for sure if they do or don't.
