Best stock sound for under £14K

Hello!!!

I have finally managed to scrape enough money together to hopefully to buy a fun car. As this will be my 1st exciting car, I'd like it to be special. I am particularly fond of good (not necessarily loud) sounding cars (as I am sure we all are!).

My absolute budget is less than £14K and ideally looking for a stock set up for "out of the box fun". An old room mate used to rave about PH forums so I thought I would see what everyone suggests!

Good thinking, coupe ideally, or hatch. Doesn't need to be a big car.

Not too picky on engine layout, ideally a V12 but they're just out of my price range

E39 M5 sounds nice, you shouldn't lose money on it either (except maintenance). If you have brave pills to hand, an E60 with a V10 is starting to creep into budget.

Audi a6 2.7t sounds lovely out the box and leaves plenty spare to keep on top of maintenance.
You really need to budget a lot for maintenance, high end cars put a lot of strain on their suspension, brakes, drivetrain etc and when they are worn even though they are still driveable they drive like ste, instead of a for example buying a 14k car you might be better buying a 12.5k car and spending 1500 on new bushes, shocks, tyres, mounts etc you could end up with something far nicer to drive and will last longer.

A TVR of some description is pretty epic, an S54 powered BMW (E46 M3, Z4M Coupe), an Alfa Romeo GTV V6, there's a few options out there!

Alfa 147 or 156 GTA? lovely V6 engine in those. There is also the GT 3.2 and the 2.5 V6 version of the 156, the later will be cheap as chips these days.

One of the Alfa V6s will see you in aural heaven way under budget, and if you get a nice GTV and keep it tidy you're unlikely to suffer any depreciation. Bear in mind it's probably safest to assume that every GTV is a £5,000 GTV. If you get one loads cheaper, it'll probably need a few quid spending on it to fix things

A Monaro is a fairly depreciation proof shout as well, completely stock the exhaust is a little quiet, but there's a decent amount of engine noise when you're up the rev range. Their values haven't changed in about 5 years, if anything they've increased slightly over the last year, although they enjoy quite obvious seasonal variation.

I always thought the E92 M3 sounded a bit tame as stock.

My 645i had the same problem - just didn't sound like a 4.4L V8. That being said, a good six series can be had well under £10k, and £500 with a local exhaust firm will have it sounding properly tidy.

Don't forget the Autodelta versions. Might just get one for £14k.

Onlu Autodelta I can find for sale just now is a supercharged Brera at Veloces of London but that's £20k.
