Quick question. My new numberplate has the number 0 followed by letter O, but they're exactly the same shape letter/number...

Is there actually a difference in the Charles Wright font?

Doesn't look like it.

There's not much scope for confusion, though.

No there isn't any difference. DVLA admit this is a big problem and wasn't thought thru properly.

It causes huge confusion when people are paying congestion/DART charges. Loads of people have no idea or interest in the number plate system so do not know if a zero is an O or visa versa. And why should they?

Especially when they fall next to each other, as in RO09. How many people know or care if it's ROO9, R009, R0O9 or RO09.

Thanks for that, I did Google for a good 5 minutes before posting but drew blank.

I suppose as that says every character apart from 1 and I has to be a certain height and width, so I don't suppose O and 0 can be any different.

They could have not used O at all, or put a diagonal line thru zero.

Mine is.. X10 OXX (X being a variable)

I never gave it a moments thought until I looked at the new plates, just wanted to double check before asign it to the car.

Thanks

That pages also says

Characters (except the number 1 or letter I) must be 50mm wide

Yet there is no letter I in the shown font
