So went to my car at lunch, 2014 Golf GTD with keyless locks ignition etc. The door opens fine when i put my hand near it. Then get in car, it locks itself, funny! then press start button, screen says key not recognised.

Try to open door... locked, deadlocks on, press unlock on the door nothing, press unlock on key nothing... I am stuck. Nothing works to get me out the car.

Mate starts laughing outside the car, so get him to unlock with me holding key near the lock ... nothing.

Have to ring the AA in the end, but luckily I also manage to get the wife to swing by with the spare, both arrive at same time. Luckily the spare unlocks car. The key is duff, new battery does nothing!!

... Going to be fun explaining this to VW!

Handy for trapping would-be car thieves, but a tad inconvenient if you want to use the Golf as a means of personal transport.

Boot was fairly full, I had a quick look and could not see anything, maybe need to look a bit harder for when/if it happens again.

Yes, I recall that from the TVR forums. Some time back now.
I may be corrected on this, but he climbed in to 'fix' the boot latch if I remember correctly. smile

This happened to a work friend of mine a few months back. Drove to Heathrow, parked up, in long stay. Total electrical failure saw him missing his flight and calling the AA to open the boot, letting him crawl out backwards. All doors and windows un-responsive.

It was a Vauxhall crap box. Even after the AA attended the best he could do was open the driver’s door from outside and not relock it. All other doors were stuck. I think it’s still in that state.

Pointless, flaky tech for the sake of it. Yet another example of why I love old, simple cars.

I will get on the blower to the Daily Mail, they'd love a good write up. I can see the photos now, me stern face, arms crossed in front of my car. Next shot me inside car banging on windows.

I am all for older cars... more so now. This is a bloody company car. The worst bit was VW assist didn't recognise the car for a while, had to check their "system" several times.

The funniest bit was the AA explaining before they got there that I will need to sign a disclaimer that they can damage my car. I politely explained I would be impressed if they managed to pass me the paper and pen!

As some Golfs are known to burst into flames you need a picture of one of those, and some kittens with the faces pressed up against the window. smile

The obvious thing that causes doors to relock is if they're not opened after being unlocked - sometimes faulty door switches mean the car doesn't recognise the door has been opened. However that's unlikely on a newish car and with keyless the car shouldn't relock if the fob is in the car unless, again, the car doesn't look for the fob as it doesn't know the door was opened.

I'm sure I saw a comments about this happening and I think in that case it was suggested that it might have been caused by interference from another keyless car parked next to it. Is that a possibility in your case?

scratchchin Well, OK then, as long as it doesn't come with stupid electronic keyless entry and a preponderance to burst into flames. : )
And a proper stick, not one of those fancy thin walled carbon fibre tubes that shatter and rip your hand to shreds.

Is there? I've seen one once on an American car, never seen one on a European car.

Anyone got a car with an internal boot release that will override the central locking? confused

Got a Passat estate that has the boot latch in the front foot well, a bit like a window open/close button.

My Golf R doesn't have an internal boot release though.
