Was just perusing Ebay looking at the usual selection of shonky old crap that has dwindled in value down into my budget and noticed that E65 seven series BMW's have dropped into the two grand area, a 2007 example being usually 6 to 12 grand, an armoured one is 75 grand.

Appreciate that its very low mileage and the armouring process must cost a fortune, but who buys a nine year old armoured seven series for that much money ?
Anyone got any interesting insights into that world ?

A friend of mine has done some close protection work for wives of oil oligarchs and the like. They live in fear of hijack/kidnap and will pay for a chauffeur and additional protection agent, so £75k for an armoured limo is cheap enough.
My pal doesn't do this any more but as a woman was very sought after as a minder for women from the Arab states, for obvious reasons. Amusingly, underneath the black gowns, the women invariably festoon themselves in La Perla, Victoria's Secret, Rolex, LV, you name it.

People who travel in these things don't really care for that cost. Their other car is probably a Rolls Royce.
But it makes a pretty good business case if you want to provide low-profile protection which something like an up armoured Land Cruiser isn't so capable of.
It's probably done a bit of embassy work around London, the odd Russian and Saudi family.

Africa, middle east, south America loads of places where if you have a few quid its a good idea to have some level of ballistic protection. The fact its LHD means it will probably sell and be shipped overseas.
A mate of mine does a fair bit of work in South America and his 4x4 took some rounds a few years ago after being chased by some bandits no doubt on the rob. Lucky for him it was armoured although fuel tank took a round so could have been nasty but lucky it was just a slow leak so was ok.

All I know is that if you walk through the glossy car showrooms on Park Lane in London you'll find a bewildering array of expensive armoured vehicles!Who buys the used ones I've no idea. Perhaps Sir Philip Green might soon have need of one.

I think I saw the same one sale before, the custom leather door cards, etc. look quite baggy.
Also, why has a caravan specialist got so many armoured cars for sale?
