Ever had a Jeremy Clarkson moment? How hard can it be?

Title says it all really. Have you had a go at doing something, thinking it would be easy but turns out to be a monumental f
k up? I once had a go at respraying a bit of damage to the bonnet of my car about 3 years ago, but it turned out horrendous and ended up forking out 450 quid for a professional respray, when it could have just been 50 had I had just called out Chips Away. Never again.
EDIT: Doesn't have to be motoring related. Can this be moved back to the Lounge?

Not motoring related but I once tried to change a pair of ceiling lights. Thought it would be a case of just replacing like for like but it was anything but. Didn't let it faze me so I ploughed on. Every time I turned the lights on bulbs would blow so cue emergency electrician who tried his hardest not to laugh at my cackhandedness. I also forgot to 'earth' them as well for extra muppetry points.

Helped a mate repair the suspension on his daughter's Citroen Xsara. Loads of play on the back axle.
I'm glad I'm not about tomorrow or I'd be stuck under it again. Will have to finish it off Monday. Need to get some agricultural tools from my other shed.
I'll never ever complain again about Italian cars

Trying to do a head-gasket change on a TD5 - with zero experience of the engine type in question, without a workshop manual, outside on the driveway exposed to the elements on a rainy weekend during one of the coldest Februaries on record. In my defence I had googled a rough 'how-to' of the process and scribbled down a couple of notes along of the lines of 'Step No.1 - Remove Grey top bit', 'Step No.2 - Remove funny-shaped connector to the left of grey top bit' - funnily enough this didn't help all that much.
Started around midday on the Saturday - with every intention of having it done by teatime. Erm.....nope. Took two days to do it properly whilst getting drenched by the best that the British weather could throw at me - then was out of the count with a stinking cold/flu for a week afterwards.
The original reasoning was something along the lines of 'How much harder can it be compared to a HG swap on a K-Series?'
Very - as it turns out.

After successfully building a 20xe astramax sleeper which was an absolute piece of piss i thought I'd have a go at making a partially spaceframe rear engined 20xe powered bedford rascal. How hard could it be? Very. Had a hell of a time getting the butchered shell on the trailer to weigh it in. Ah to be young and overambitious but crap again.
