Opel... sorry, Vauxhall Insignias and their badges

I'd estimate that about 1 in every 3 Insignias that I see at the moment have their Vauxhall badge on the front removed, leaving behind an Opel-shaped "recess" that the badge is presumably glued on to.
It looks awful, but the commonality of it suggests that this is a trendy thing that people are deliberately doing rather than it just being s
tty build quality making the badges fall off.
Have seen it on a few Astras too, although nowhere near as many.
Anyone else noticed this? Surely people can't be blind enough to think that having the "badge" with the mounting holes visible looks good?

Guy who lived somewhere nearby (parked down the road) had a Passat CC... Over the period of what must've been a year, twice it had its front badge missing.
Quite sad really that people will bother to rip them off like that, but nowhere near as depressing as all the mercs that used to get their bonnet stars pulled off when I was growing up in Cyprus (all the taxis were w123/w124s so it was open season!).
Not sure why someone wants a Vauxhall badge though?! Unless they plan on replacing it with a Opel badge if that's some sort of "in"/scene thing?

I think them falling off or being nicked is unlikely, for the reasons stated above, so I reckon it's deliberate de-badging from people trying to hide what it is. I'm looking at a brand new Insignia now out of my office window and I have to say it doesn't really look like a Vauxhall, and if it wasn't for the badge and my car geekiness I'd probably think it was some sort of Golf/Scirocco derivative.

Vauxhalls are pretty shocking, but I think it's unlikely that many badges would fall off, even on Vauxhalls. I had my Lotus badges nicked once from my Elise, and I know it's a problem with cars like that, but off all the badges out there, Vx has to be the least desirable to wear around your neck if you're an aspiring hip hop star surely? 
It didn't happen on the last generation of Vauxhalls because they and Opels had different grilles and you couldn't really remove the badges from them - they were integral.
Now they have the same grilles with a different badge stuck on
Remember - much as it's trendy here for Vauxhall owners to badge their cars as Opels, it's also trendy abroad for Opel owners to badge their cars as Vauxhalls. I always assumed they got stolen for that reason

Everyone was knicking vw badges because one of them wore one on a chain.
