I'm sure this topic has been discussed numerous times and I'm aware and have contributed in the show us your shoes thread, however I feel this would be better as a new thread.

I'm after a pair of driving shoes/trainers mainly for use on a Sunday blast / track days. Currently I own a pair of leather piloti's but they feel quite thick in the sole.

I believe the answer is puma speedcats but it looks like they've been discontinued and they no longer have my size.

So budget no more than £150 ideally any suggestions?

Driver training will help you on a track. An expensive pair of trainers wont make a difference. Use what you already own or buy some cheap trainers.

That's quite a sneery response. How do you know Rob's not already a dab hand on the track and just wants people's advice on comfortable shoes for driving in?

I've got some Alpinestars boots (Tech 1-Zs IIRC)

Whilst great they are very narrow and, in a road car at least, don't really help with H&T etc.

These days I usually just wear a pair of Converse...

It was and as stated in my post my current footwear I'm not happy with so would like to change.

Being a well built PH type I don't need training as I'm a god behind the wheel....

Fair enough. I am also powerfully built exec type.

Have a great time and remember that spending lots on shoes will not necessarily make you smile more.

When you say leather Pilotis have you tried any suede ones? I have a pair of some old (discontinued) Pilotis (named after a famous corner as I recall) and I find them extremely comfortable - they look similar to the prototipo model.

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 have thin soles and can be worn in public, unlike some/most racing shoes or boots.

For racing I've a pair of Porsche Strand 21 FIA spec boots, but an old pair of £20 leather shoes/runners have as good feel. IMHO walk into your nearest Clarks factory outlet and see what fits you best.

Puma 'Future Cats' are pretty decent for pedal feel, get the unbranded versions though as it looks a bit sad wearing Ferrari branded shoes if you don't have the car.

I currently commute in leather soles loakes but on my new car they seem to not grip as well on the pedals so would prefer a rubber sole.

I know for some shoes really aren't necessary but I like to feel comfortable behind the wheel and I always believe in the saying "I can't afford cheap shoes"

I'll take a look at the shoes suggested.

I've heard it all now.... but seeing as you asked. I think you should go for something like a green driving moccasin.

I have some old discontinued piloti shoes. They're leather inside and out which means in the summer they get hot! I think I'm right in saying they went bust and then started up again. I do like the look of the suede shoes. It's just annoying I'll have to mail order a load of shoes to find the right pair.

In fact... scrap that...

What you need is a shiny brown pair of moccasins, and some white socks.

Or Converse low / hi-top. Very thin soles.
