Ok, so you get given this, a brand new Escort Mk2 bodyshell, what would you do with it that doesnt involve selling, crushing or burning, for those folk, find a lease thread, this is for those who would like and enjoy the end result.

For me, paint it bright red, modern brakes and suspension and possibly an S2000 engine, interior fairly nicely trimmed in Black leather.

Slot mag wheels with big doughnut like tyres and jacked up leaf springs at the back.

Reliving the Custom Car Magazine era.

Restomod it. Like the Singer 911.

I've been toying for years with the idea of doing a Triumph TR2/TR3 restomod, with the aim of matching a Caterham R400's performance. And I bet it can be done cheaper than the price of a new R400!

I'd sling it into General Gassing maybe?

We've got a classic Ford fan at work who gets illogically upset if someone buys any car that's not a Ford (particularly if it's a Vauxhall)

I'd do what I told him I'd do given the opportunity - put a 20XE (Vauxhall Red Top) in it

Id go with the m1351 engine and just a plain silver.
no badges, and some minilites, no lowering, but some wonderful brakes!

You know these shells are made in China right?

Also that thread on here where people cry, poop their pants and run to the internet police about people selling chassis numbers from rotten cars on eBay. It would be very hard to register one of these shells unless you could afford to spend 4-5k on a rotten escort just to scrap so you could have the chassis number and v5.

Anyway, I'd stick a warrior engine in it, some sort of sequential gearbox, atlas rear axle, x-pack bodykit and 15" minilites. No interior other than dashboard with digital clocks and a couple of bucket seats and harnesses. Cooler than a pink panther sipping whiskey on top of an iceberg.

Would prefer a Mk1 Cortina. But yes modern running gear and brakes.

Keep it spartan on the interior, put a highly tuned NA engine in it, but not something obvious like an LS, im thinking more along the lines of a 2 litre i4 or a sub 3 litre V6.

Proper driveline/running-gear/brakes and make it a weekend-toy

Some sort of American V8 crate engine, paint it 1970s brown with steel wheels and have some fun at the traffic lights.

I'd turn it into a fun useable weekend toy. Built BDA engine, Revolutions and of course spot lights!

Alloy block YB breathing through throttle bodies, nice chunky box and diff, spartan but period interior, topped off by a lovely set of 15" wheels and a decent colour scheme

This sort of thing, the black cars a render but you get the idea

Cosworth YB is always a tempting option, but I'd be tempted to modernise it instead with an EcoBoost running gear. There'd be an awful lot of fabrication work involved and I'd want to rust-proof the shell so that I could drive it, come hell or high water.

My plans would probably end up leaving the shell the cheapest part of the build!

Mate of mine has a mint 77 Mexico. I'm talking factory box fresh and original

God it's slow and utterly uninteresting to be in. With nothing great about the ford trim or fittings.

No wonder people change them as much as possible.

Turreted rear, lowered,
x-pack wings and RS2000 nosecone.
Full MSA rollcage
Race seats and harnesses
Plastic side and rear windows
Widest 13" rims I could find running slicks.
2 litre pinto with a holbay head running twin 45's
5 speed box with straight cut gears.
Keep it road legal(obvoiusly without the slicks) for the odd blast.
Race the crap out of it otherwise.

Galvanise the shell first

Tesla p100d running gear with the Ludicrous mode upgrade, and as much of the battery pack as will fit.

then commute the hell out of it smile
