I see where the Morgan driver went wrong:

Performance 0 – 62: 8.0 seconds

Saw that the other day. 100% fault of the Morgan driver, shame about the car though - I wonder what its fate is now.

Why didn't the Pug driver just go round the Moggie on the hatched area?

Didn't even look as quick as that.

I suspect the low ride and open top made it feel quicker than it actual is.

Eek.

Certainly the Morgan's fault, but a more experienced driver in the 206 would have spent less time searching for the horn and more time avoiding the incident.

How? Dive across the grass at speed?

Believe it or not, you can sound the horn and apply the brakes simultaneously, as the driver of the Peugeot did.

You are supposed to sound the horn to alert other road users of your presence. I would argue that this was the correct thing to do in this situation, as if the Morgan driver had been paying attention, he would have heard it and made an effort to avoid the collision.

Instead, he tried to accelerate up to the national speed limit in a very short distance and ruined somebody else's day as a result. All because he wanted to impress a small group of strangers who like to spend their spare time stood in a lay-by.

No there isn't, not at the crucial point - easily avoidable if paying attention, using any sort of anticipation, and a competent driver.

He was either fiddling with the radio/phone or froze through being doddery or inexperienced.

This has been done to death on the bad driving video thread.

I've swerved around people pulling out at much greater speed and with far less space available.

Still the Morgan's fault, but it was avoidable.

Because of this sign stuck on the road at the start of the hatched area maybe?

Not sure if serious? You're obviously some kind of driving god

The 206 hit the Morgan 1 second after it passed the traffic island at the point the 206 was already in the verge trying to avoid the Morgan coming from the right

I've seen a suggestion that the Peugeot was speeding..... could it be that the gap looked safe for a car doing the speed limit?

What are you smoking?

That photo is almost exactly 1 second before impact. Perhaps you're looking at the streetview images, which are historical and don't have the new island and single lane?

This is why pensioners shouldn't be allowed on the roads.
