Anyone know what's going on and if these cameras are live?
A week back they started appearing, but with "camera not in use" signs. The signs have now gone so one assumes they're live, yet 90% of the traffic doesn't seem to agree.
I feel a bit of a plumb doing 50 when almost everyone around me is doing 80+ !

Use it daily. No idea what's going on, but I'm sticking to 50.
Can't think of the logic behind it.
They've also coned off the laybay going into town just before Swakelys turn off. Wife and I always park there when we walk along the canal & Denham Country Park, to avoid paying for parking in the park itself.

Only 1 set of average cameras before the M25 turn off (heading East) and only 1 set of average cameras when joining from the M25 (heading West) which to me means no average can be taken. So people won't be slowing down unless continuing further eastbound or coming out of central London.

Shhhh....don't tell everyone.
We always part up there, walk round the lake then stop off for a cup of tea at the lock - which is nice.

I'm not taking the risk so you won't be the only one doing 50mph.
I had a quick search yesterday and couldn't find much aside from some mention of repair works to a bridge, not sure but it seems clear no work has started yet but it's anyone's guess as to if they are live or not.
Me neither. I do M40/M25/A41 to work and back a few times a week so get them going and coming home. I think it's to do with the street lighting, there's a sign - I think on the M25 by J16 just before the turn off - I'm probably doing 50 unnecessarily but don't wanna be the guinea pig who goes too far over and then gets another 3 points.I had a quick search yesterday and couldn't find much aside from some mention of repair works to a bridge, not sure but it seems clear no work has started yet but it's anyone's guess as to if they are live or not.
I assumed they became live when the 'speed cameras not in use' signs disappeared. 99% going through there now seem to be sticking to 50 or thereabouts.

Well this morning the overhead gantry between Denham Roundabout and the M25 was showing 60, whilst the 50 average speed limit remains in force.
Yeah, absolutely no joined up thinking at all. It's dangerous and distracting when you have to keep glancing at your fu***** speedo every five seconds in case you've crept over the limit which a machine with no ability to discern if it's really dangerous will give you a NIP

This is past irritating and is in fact bloody dangerous.
Apparently, it is so that some mythical worker can change a lightbulb or two. This it seems is going to take several months as they seem to be doing one every third night.
I use this section daily and a varying times and find myself making the following observations.
At 2am, I am one of half a dozen cars on that stretch, all pointlessly and frustratingly driving at 50mph, generally with no evidence of any works.
The other night, it was the turn of a bulb at the Denham junction. This meant that the Motorway was closed and everyone was funnelled off and them back on, causing the inevitable gridlock. Once back on after our little diversion we were treated to the joy of the rest of the 50mph section without a flashing amber light in sight.
At busy times around rush hour (when there is definitely no work being carried out) heading out of town, there is much heavy braking and everything comes to a standstill east of Swakeleys as the cars at the front panic when the reach the first camera. This has so far resulted in a number of accidents, minor, but accidents none the less.
This is compounded by people swerving across to join the M25 but struggling to cope with the lack of speed differential with the traffic in the other lanes.
Equally the vehicles entering from the M25 are traveling much faster and continue at their higher speeds because they are not hampered by this lunacy.
When the road is clear, it adds probably only 5 to 10 minutes to my journey but in heavy traffic it goes up to 20 or so. Very much a first world problem, but one than need not exist.
I would find someone official to register my complaint with but I think we all know that, whichever halfwit invented this has wasted more than enough of my time already.
Anyway, I feel a bit better now so I'm off to spend some time with my family and concentrate on the things that really matter.

They've now un-coned (is that even a word?) the layby so it's back in use.

It seems that no one at the Highways Agency has ever read this book:

Unfortunately, all these pointless limits do is to further re-enforce in the average drivers head that they can ignore limits. I mean, once you've passed the 20th "50mph" sign and yet your eyes are clearly telling you the road ahead is clear and empty, you naturally start to ignore those signs.
What the Higheways agency are too stupid or ignorant to understand is that this regression to the norm, results in those very same drivers starting, subconsciously, to ignore important limits, like for example 30mph zones. The average driver hasn't had the training, experience or got the necessary skills (and generally isn't paying enough attention to leverage those sorts of skills) to be able to make a valid risk assessment of their speed in complex driving situations (like the average 30mph limit through a village or town). Speeding in 30mph zones is, i'm going to suggest now epidemic, in fact, when you actually follow someone doing 30 in a 30 it's an unusual event ime, and i place that blame firmly at the door of the Highways Agency, and other "speed kills" organisations etc....
So, next time you shout "WOLF" you'd better be dam sure there actually is a Wolf.........

There's also a sign somewhere in this clusterfu*k that says 'speed limit in force due to incomplete safety barrier'..Apparently, it is so that some mythical worker can change a lightbulb or two. This it seems is going to take several months as they seem to be doing one every third night.
It must be in complete for less than 100 mm, cos I cannae see it

Following this thread for ages and finally managed to find some 'official' details about the cameras, including the end date... (source: https://goo.gl/eq6vve)
