Car indecisiveness
Discussion
Anyone else like me and can never decide what car to get next? I've been deciding on my next car for about 12 months but cannot make a decision. One day it'll be X, the next Y, then Z, then back to X, and then maybe T, etc. It drives MrsTheAngryDog up the wall
Anyone else have this issue with car decisions?

My OH is a nightmare, she's FINALLY decided to change hers but now the constant changing her mind about WHAT to change it to has begun...

Story of my life, until a year ago. Keep car for 3-6 months and all that time looking at other cars, paying more than they were maybe worth, losing money on the ones I sold etc etc.
I love my current one. I will keep it for a few years now (Golf R estate). I am upgrading the exhaust system soon, then I will be 100% happy with it.

Nope, I'm the complete opposite, there must be 50 cars I'd like to buy, maybe more.

I have recently P/X'd a 19y old E36. I went from considering Subaru Outback/Forester, VW 140, VW Gti, Golf R, Audi A3, Focus estate, BRZ/GT86, Cayman. Godammit, I even had a string of dreams about an old Volvo 740GL estate we had many continental holidays in (great space and turning circle). This went on for at least 3 years, so much so that when I went and came back with a 335d xdrive, my OH was just thankful I had made my mind up. I really am beginning to think that less is more, I mean her Fabia 1.2 Tsi is great - when journalists say 'dull cabin', that translates in reality as 'no reflections, and no squeaks or rattles'. I still fancy a BRZ, but for now I shall be doing some long journeys once or twice a month for the next 2 years or so. I got a diesel (Euro6), because I believe well supported EVs are at least ten years away.

Only for one year? You are not taking this car lark seriously!
Haha. I went through about 20 cars in the last 14 years. Everything from a Cupra R225, TT 240 QS, to a Lada Niva and SsangYong Musso, Peugeot 205 GTI etc etc. I cant afford to do this again. The number of days spent boring my partner to death and looking on the internet I will never get back, so for my own sanity I will stop (for a while anyway).
I am going to focus instead on some tasteful mods to my current car and more money spent on real ale at my local pub
I found myself watching a Youtube video of someone fitting a carbon diffuser to a car I don't own but am thinking about. When I end up having a go of one I know more about it then the dealers do. You aren't the only one who researches them to the nth degree but then find something small and then discards it.

I found the key was 2 cars, both broadly different. For me I found the key was a small sports car and a 4x4, which in forsight seemed obvious after my history of compromised hot-hatches.
EDIT: Although the problem with that is having mental blocks & forgetting which car you are behind the wheel of. I will never forget the day I tried to clip the apex of a local roundabout like I do in my MX5... but in my lifted Jimny.

You think thats bad? Try going car shopping with a family member & answering all their questions on the dealers behalf, one of the downsides of being engineering-ly inclined as I tend to remember really stupid facts too. Edited by caelite on Wednesday 5th July 15:49
haha, it's happened for most of my driving life. I've had 31 plus cars in 18 years of driving. Less than some but more than others. At one point I was going through 4 plus cars a year.
If I had the space and cash I'd have 2 cars, but as I do not need a car for work, 2 cars would be pointless...
