How much to repair a deep scratch on side of car
Discussion
Need to get some damage on my car repaired but unsure if it's worth just coughing up to get it done or going through insurance.
It's scratched pretty deep down to the bare metal so I assume a full respray is needed.

That looks nasty
I had, on the front of my car, something of similar size... it was on the bumper though and someone had had a cack-handed attempt at dabbing it in with a paint pot. It'd gone down to the plastic though and there was a deep chip on the leading edge of the upper grill piece (Mazda 3 so the bonnet edge is actually set back from the front of the car behind this piece of plastic).
£220 to chipsaway had it like new. I was skeptical I must say, but this lovely Polish chap turned up and sorted it out, matched the colour perfect as well (tricky as it was a 2 part paint and the base coat looks orange instead of red).
He did it in the driveway. I reckon they'd be able to sort that.
I am sure I have photos somewhere. I'll see if I can dig them out.

Smart repair or bodyshop.
Whichever you choose either is capable of doing a good job or a crap one - proper prep and a good match being the key.
Based on your photo that damage looks entirely do-able by a good smart repairer. Although you don't show how far the scratch is from the door the area is actually quite small when you look at the boundaries - the new clear edge easily losable on the swage line above the damage & it's a curved area which helps.
Needs to be viewed to give a proper price & a decision. I never give even a ball park figure based on photos - although I will turn stuff down based on photos. The bodyshops I recommend don't guesstimate either.
I suspect Otispukmeyer's is a typical Mazda with a solid colour base coat, then a tinted coat containing the metallic/pearlescent/xirillic elements followed by the clearcoat?
ETA If you give an idea as to your area you might get some recommendations.

Oh wow you are close then. I'm Erskine. I went around a few bodyshops in Renfrewshire/Glasgow for work to my car. Most quotes came out around £350+. I used a one man band in Bishopton that was £160. Perfect work and even had my OH and a few co-workers use him, all with rave reviews. If you're getting stung on the quotes, I can give you his number if it's of any interest. He's right next to the train station too.Based in Glasgow if anyone knows somewhere worthwhile.

It looks like part of the 'scratch' is white paint??It's scratched pretty deep down to the bare metal so I assume a full respray is needed.

Either way, I had something not dissimilar done by Chipsaway. Perfect job, £180.

the problem (as far as I can tell) with the mobile smart repairs is that it's pot luck whether the weather conditions (temp, humidity) are suitable. if they're not, no amount of skill and technique will make the job good
My local Chipsaway have done things for me in c5 degree cold and 25+ heat. They've never charged more than £180.Sounds like you've had bad experience/s
