1. A1, Great Ponton North Bound, Lincolnshire - £606,400

Seems to me that in those areas people are not very observant of the speed limits.

It's not very hard; if you exceed the speed limit, then you stand to catch a fine if caught. If you want to avoid extra driving costs, and points on your lisence, just stick t te speed limits.

If you want to thrash the bejeesus out of whatever vehicle you've got, then do a track day. Otherwise chance it but if you get caught, that's your fault.

That's why I was asking - are all those 70 limits or some other limit?

The stretch of A12 in 2015 (No 5) was subject to a long-term, long-distance 40 (or maybe 50) limit while they renewed all the central res safety fence and did some geotechnical works. 40 would have seemed like a snails pace, so I can understand why that one is so high on the list.

i remember hearing years back (00s) that the highest earning was on the A3 heading into london where it goes from a 70 to a 50.. doesnt appear to be on that list.

Those figures don't seem that high. I am sure there was one camera at the bottom of the M11 just before the A406 that reportedly used to gross over £1m and was the highest earning camera in the UK. It now seems to dropped out of the top 10 and it was still there in 2015.

Based on these figures and assuming a £100 fine that only equates to just 31641 motorists or thereabouts.

Clearly the speed cameras are working in reducing speeding offences or maybe the figures are not accurate.

Well-worded, since they aren't actually reducing peoples' speed for much more than 50 linear yards, realistically. All that happens is people learn where the cameras are, slow down for them, then immediately speed up again - myself included.

So the only people who get 'caught' are the unaware or those who aren't paying attention.

most cameras are just before areas where there is a slip road aren't they? or after a sign for a lower speed. its fine then. speed isnt what causes accidents, it's not paying attention.

No 2 is a proper tt. Thats from a mobile camera too, not a fixed one, nice empty stretch of the M180, middle of nowhere, slight left bend so you dont see them on the hard shoulder mound as you come round.

And before you ask: Yes, 82mph nice clear dry sunday morning, only car on the road.

Speed cameras in catching speeding motorists shocker.

That article simply proves that those cameras in 70 limits are needed as speeding is a problem. Everyone know the maximum you can travel in the UK is 70mph.

Doesn't matter if a clear dry sunny day. 82 is 12 mph over the speed limit and you got caught with speedo reading about 85. Speed limits don't raise when the sun is out.

Great Ponton is a SPECS zone, given the number and type of junctions on that stretch it isn't unreasonable to try and keep speeds down there. In some ways it is surprising how many get caught given it is SPECS and clearly a bad place to speed.

True, but these are 'Safety Cameras', not speed cameras. Why would they target the safest roads on the network......? When they could be somewhere else where they may save a life.

So the 'safety van' doesnt work then?

I dont know what caused the first accident, or how the lorries collided, but I fail to see why you think taking photos of cars, and collecting many monies would help either case.
