Is the headlight "flasher" an MOT requirement? Mine stopped working a while ago due to a dogey stalk, have always just manually turned my lights on and off quickly to flash people to go etc. Don't fancy having to change the stalk at this point if i don't have to, MOT is due soon.

The Mk1 MX5 didn't have a flasher unless you did the 'flash to pass' mod, I think.

Not necessary according to this, as far as I understand. Also check that your blue 'main beam warning' light works.

Many older cars didn't have a headlight flasher.

No idea about the headlight flasher, but there are several things that are not required to have, but if fitted must work.

May be best if modern cars did not too.

You think wrong.

Although, you have to hold on to the stalk a bit longer so that the headlights have time to pop up...

I volunteer myself to be the whining adenoidal bore who suggests that you should probably just replace the stalk with an inexpensive used item from eBay. thumbup

The 'flash' functionality works, but you had to manually press the button to raise the lights first, otherwise they'd just flash at the floor! The flash to pass' mod makes the headlight raise when you pull the stalk. At least, this was the case on my MK1 Eunos. I've a feeling I read somewhere that Mazda UK fitted something to the cars at the dealership to do this, so it might just be a mod needed for imports only.

Anyway... mine went through several years of MOT's flashing at the floor before I did the mod, so I agree that it doesn't seem to be a requirement.
