Concourse Cars
Discussion
Can people please stop talking about 'concourse' cars? This is PH; we are supposed to know about cars FFS!
Concourse. n. A crowd; throng. A large open space. A ground for sports, racing, athletics etc.
Concours (d'elegance). n fr. A parade of cars or other vehicles, prizes being awarded to the most elegant, best designed, or best turned-out.
A 'concours car' is, colloquially, one which (in theory) is in very good condition.
A 'concourse car' is infuriating and meaningless b

Indeed, the events are now more of a "concours d'etat" where cleanliness and originality are the key elements rather than elegance!Even though I very rarely wash my cars, i have a deep admiration for those who can produce such immaculate examples for the shows - the efforts they put into the restoration and upkeep are staggering.

I don't buy the autocorrect story at all. People use the wrong word because they don't know it's the wrong word, and it annoys me.
Not everyone is as educated or bright as others. Doesn't make what they have to say or their opinion any less relevant though.Starting a thread for minor spelling annoyances though, that takes a special kind of special.

"Well, I detailed it to within an inch of it's life in the hermetically sealed garage at home. Then loaded it onto an immaculately clean, constant temperature, controlled environment trailer. When we got here we covered the ground in sheeting, rolled it off carefully, wearing felt gloves, and when it was in position we re-cleaned the tyre treads and jacked it up to ensure that the dust caps were all located at the six-o'clock position. Then we polished it again just to make sure. It hasn't been started since the full engine rebuild though, as that would get carbon into the beautifully amber engine oil, and soot around the exhaust tips is an absolute no-no in this game..."

Bonus points if they're wearing marque-branded clothing, and "driving shoes" to display a car that is, somewhat ironically, never driven anywhere. I can think of few worse fates for a car than being relegated to 'concours competitions' instead of getting driven regularly...

On the flip side though, if it were not for the Cartier Style et Luxe lawn at Goodwood every year, then there would be a far larger number of cars that I'd never have seen, so I'm torn between loving and hating that particular motoring "scene".
