I know it’s happened to us all at some point but it seems like there is a HUGE amount of new car builders remorse on these hallowed pages lately ... surely this can’t be truly representative of the populous ordering new cars, so why is it so relevant on here??

Or is it people acting the big I-Am and ordering to impress internet strangers and then realising come delivery they’ve royally fooked up?? (I hope this isn’t the case as it’s frankly scarily sad)

Or am I missing something??

Not sure, not really seen those threads. But it's a know fact that loads of people are over stretch their credit borrowing at the moment. So maybe that plays a part.

If you've got £3,000 spare a month and spend £300/mth on a new car, you'll probably forgive it any minor foibles up to a point, it's not a major burden in your life, you no doubt see it a low threshold outgoing and you could do something to change the situation if you really wanted to.

But if you've got £300 spare a month and spend £300/mth on a new car, then it's no doubt highly important to you, both practically and emotionally. So if there are any niggles or doubt, you'll be tempted to look for the ripcord and jettison in.

Maybe. I know that I forgive things that are cheap in my life and very demanding about those that are comparatively expensive.

Never had that problem myself, by the time it comes to handing money over I'm usually pretty content with my decisions. Not that the decision making process usually takes long especially with cars.

I have rejected two cars and had them taken back but that was because they were faulty, and not in a way that could be fixed back to 'new' like I'd paid for. Replaced with exactly the same spec.

But actual buyers remorse? No.

Sounds to me like a symptom of the "must have it now, this instant, on credit" society we live in. People splashing out on shiny trinkets on impulse with not proper research or forethought beforehand.

If I'm buying something even moderately expensive, eg. the pair of £200 Timberlands I bought the other week, I spend my time looking at reviews, all the possible alternatives, pros and cons, and where is best to purchase from.
If I was buying a new car you'd be damn sure I'd have an extended test drive of each option and be going over all the variations with a fine tooth comb.
In short, people just need to learn more restraint

What cars have you bought where you managed to obtain an extended test drive? Very few performance models are available on this basis ime.

^ This.

I know colleagues who will chop in financed cars early for another financed car and raise the extra finance to cover the shortfall. Sometimes it's a necessity - about to give birth and currently in a MX5. Other times it's a complete fkwittery reasons: "I just bought road tax and it's £310 so I've part exchanged it for a newer one that's only £130" or "My car only does 30mpg and my new one says it does 42mpg."

They never consider the few thousand it's cost to change all for a couple of hundred pounds that has shocked them.

Think I’m inclined to agree ... or the classic, I’ve had a call from the dealer and they are putting me in a new car for less money after only having the car for less than 1 year taking finance on finance to cover the shortfall over a longer period

I worked with someone who was suckered into this by Mini every 6mths for a solid 3yrs trading up in model and spec each time to the point where the total package was best part of a decade long and for an astronomical total figure

Really ?

How do you deduce buyer’s remorse from that ?

There is clearly a fault or faults with the vehicle or else the dealership in question wouldn’t have offered the long list of remedies including a brand new factory order.

What the chap seems to be debating is does he stick with the brand or go elsewhere.

How people infer from that it is because he can’t afford the finance and then unleash the usual claptrap about “modern day society” I really don’t know.

You can’t, but it must be true because story on pistonheads rofl

And like 0.1% of people change their cars every 6 months. I do because I work for a car dealer and Our leases are 6m terms, but most people in the real world don’t. The story is BS.

haven't seen many threads like this, but car buying has been changing. With most being bought on credit one way or another and dealers/manufacturers marketing them based on monthly payments and 2 year deals they're becoming like white goods. I suspect a lot of people don't properly test drive or research them if they're signing up to pay a set amount per month, rather than sinking a sizeable chunk of cash on one.

As leasing is getting more popular too cars are bought completely unseen, often from online brokers. How many of these people go to a dealer beforehand and properly test drive the car they want to lease? I'm guilty of this, I've just ordered an Octavia VRS for my new daily, having only very briefly sat in one in a show room and driven a diesel auto (ordered petrol manual). As it's a daily on a cheap lease I'm not all that bothered if it isn't perfect, I'm treating it as something to put business miles on and chuck big stuff in the boot. Compared to my F type that I had to part with aforementioned chunk of cash for, I spent months researching, looking at a few and properly test driving before deciding to buy one, then spent ages finding the right car so I wouldn't have any remorse!
