Is it me or is the new LR discovery sport everywhere?

Seems like this car it’s literally everywhere at the mo. Anyone got one ? Why are they so popular?
It’s JLR’s best selling car. It’s at a price point that makes it competitive in the executive mid-sized SUV market
Land Rover is an aspirational product
JLR are pushing their people into product now the Ford thing is done and dusted
Yes, I have one
Yes, they are a good product with great practicality. They are popular because of this.
You will either get a good one and love it, or a Friday afternoon special that will make you hate life. Tossing a coin gives you the same probability.
I am leaving Land Rover at the end of the month and going to Volvo.

Are there issues with them ? I got told that the newer models have a new engine and to go for thatI am leaving Land Rover at the end of the month and going to Volvo.

They're essentially this generation's Freelander in all but name and I'm sure you remember how popular they were. It's LR's volume seller.
Thats a good point. I had made the assumption they were going to succeed the Evoque but I guess they will continue to run side-by-side. Is there a new Evoque due? Guessing they will not retire that one.Looks and space/shape wise i cant help but think the Disco Sport are what the Evoque should have looked like.

The old SD4 was only fitted to the Disco Sport for a short while. There is nothing wrong with this unit, other than it’s a good deal less refined than the ingeniun TD4.I’ve done 6,000 miles in mine. On the whole, it’s a good car. Practicality is excellent and they are nice long distance cars (I’m averaging 31 mpg in mine). The DPF clogs up if you don’t use the car for longer, regular runs. A few niggles with mine which would really piss me off if I was a private buyer. A lot of my customers are very happy with their Disco Sports, and, for some reason they seem to be less troublesome than the rest of the line up now the launch issues have been resolved. However, JLR are bottom of the reliability tables for a reason. It’s this latter point which is such a shame because I love the brand and have grown up with Land Rover.

Rather have a Tiguan/Q5/XC60
Infotainment and reliability sucks
I imagine a lot of people buy Discovery Sport as they need occasional 7 seats - Tiguan Allspace provides that. So does Skoda Kodiaq but the people who are buying Discovery Sport based on its badge aren't likely to even consider Skoda.Infotainment and reliability sucks
Infotainment and sat nav on VAG products is pretty poor too, though.

Are they really that good of just great advertising? Latest fad? Im looking for a 7 seater and this is on the list.
They aren't noticably bigger than a focus estate. You need an SMax or Galaxy for 7 people, or a Discovery if you have aspirations of bumping up the odd curb. Sheepshanks said:

Not IME, dads A8 (2015) has a great infotainment system, mums Tiguan is very good (although android auto helps with this) and brothers A5 is a little dated but still decent with up to date maps (2012 A5)Edited by Sheepshanks on Thursday 28th December 09:27
We've just got rid of ours having had it for about 14 months. The main problem is the absolutely hopeless range thanks to the pitifully small 54L fuel tank and its lousy fuel consumption. Yes I'm well aware that I shouldn't expect anything like the combined figure (54.3mpg) but an average of 30.2mpg over 16,000 miles of mainly longer runs is terrible and means a typical range of about 320 miles on a 48L fill-up. Best we ever managed was only 36.6mpg.
It's a shame as the car is essentially a fantastic motorway companion otherwise. I could forgive the fuel consumption if the tank was big enough to give it the sort of range it should have, but I guess due to packaging they needed some space for the equally small AdBlue tank which only lasts about 4,000 miles too.
Coming from an X3 20d which would do 40mpg no matter how much it was abused and 48mpg on a long 85mph run it was a bit of a let down.
I suspect ours was a Friday afternoon car as it was also constantly suffering from electrical gremlins the most annoying of which was the thermostat issue where the car would periodically decide it was -40C outside and turn the heat up to its highest setting in the middle of summer.

Not for me... design reasonable but poor build quality for the price. After a work colleague had 2 blown engines, the first replaced under warranty, the second time they gave him a new car after some negotiation. This happened within 2 years and not that many miles. He is not going JLR again and with his experience I think I won’t either. I hear to many reliable ability issues from JLR for what should be a premium product. Not there yet IMHO.

Mostly Evokes near us. I was given a Disco sport as a courtesy car when my D4 went for a service. I’d never buy one. Plenty of people have though.
This ^^^The gap between the D4 and D sport is massive.
Our D4 is probably worth £15K. We had on hire for few days a fully Cheshire'd Sport with £40K list.
The D4 is so much more refined and capable in everyway there was no way we would consider one.
That's not saying its a bad car. The same would be true jumping from D4 into Kuga, ex trail, X3, rav4 etc
