What's with all the Vauxhall Insignia's with Opel grille?

I see these all over. Many colours although often black grey and silver ones. I see them at home in Staffordshire and up and down the M40 and A34 and into Berkshire. It's moer than a handful of cars.

What is it? : It's Vauxhaul Insignia cars (prev shape, the blobby one), with a normal Vauxhall badge and name/logo at the rear but an Opel grille on the front, and *always* the Opel badge is missing and there's just this black Opel logo shape in the plastic waiting for one.

What gives?

I’m sure the shiny griffin is stuck over the top of the hollow Opel badge, which retains its ‘flash’ without the shiny part.

There must've been a spate of really badly glued on griffins in that case.

Apparently the glue on the badge fails, the Vauxhall badge falls off and reveals the Opel badge underneath, very common apparently.

They are all Opel underneath but Vauxhall used a very weak adhesive (or a chewed bit of bubblegum) for their badge and over time it falls off. The owners presumably not really bothered as no badge is better than a Vauxhall badge..

Rule 1 of cost-saving. Vary as few bits as possible.

Where only one market has a badge change, why have two different part numbers for the entire grille, when you only need change the shiny?

I had a chuckle at this in an episode of the Grand Tour when they were racing around the industrial estate; Vauxhall insignia crashes into some bins and emerges as an Opel insignia

Insignias with missing Vauxhall badges on the front grille are the new Mondeos with duct-taped bumpers.

They obviously used better adhesive when applying the Vauxhall badges to my Monaro, took me ages the get the fker off
