Looks like we've not had a decent "garage" thread for a while. Whose got a cool garage and when does ownership of cars plural become a "collection"? Answers with pictures please.

Some people say, I car and you are a user, 2 cars and you are a collector, more than 2 and you plan to sell when you get a good price means you are an investor.

Not that I neccessarily agree, just sayin'.

Probably when you have more than there is a need for. For me anymore than 3 for 2 people so that you have 2 dailies and a fun car. Past this you just have more fun cars that you don't especially need you just want them.

I would post a pic of the garage but the building starts in March I have nice clearing though.

When you have 2 or more that have something in common (besides having wheels)

e.g. 4x4, convertible, dirty estate, shopping supermini - lots of cars all with different uses.

2 sports cars - collection.

A collection is when your have more that one car that isn't permanently taxed, MOT'd and insured and in use.
Yes I'll go along with that...

Owner = daily + weekender.
Collector = hoarder with money.
Investor = lucky hoarder with money.

Umm, nine in total which could be classified in many ways, including but not limited to:-

3 currently partially / completely dismantled, one purchased like that, two all my own handiwork!
3 V8's
2 American cars over 50 years old
3 Saabs varying from 15 to 43 years old
2 Estates
3 Coupes

I'm sure there is a word to describe it, but I'm not sure that word is "collection"... rotate

My wife and I have one small car each and one large car each but we wouldn't call it a collection.

44 cylinders, 24.45 litres

I still think I have some space - perhaps a TR3 or Lotus 7...

I have two RenaultSports and two Mercs, not sure if that constitutes a collection as such. I'm quite pleased with them though smile

Collection = More cars than you have drivers in the house.

For example, if both of my kids were of driving age, and we had four cars (mine, the wife's, car for kid one, car for kid two), I wouldn't call that a collection.

However, if I had four cars and both my kids didn't drive, that WOULD be a collection.

Less about the number of cars, more about the number of drivers. wink
