Hi All,

I already know what most of the comments are going to be, however, I own a 2017 plate Audi S3, which I have insured, and is a reasonable price as it is rolled forward from my old policy on a much cheaper car.

I know insurance isn't going to be cheap considering I'm 19 and it is a high-performance car, I'm under no illusions. I can afford the car, running costs and road tax. However, was wondering whether there are any insurance companies who may cater to the niche of young drivers and performance vehicles that people may be aware of?
Or things I can do to bring the price down? My current insurance wants an extra £200 now that I have a tracker fitted (which makes very little sense). I already have my parents as named drivers on the policy, and 10k miles (as drive around for work). Are further driving courses worth looking into for insurance discounts?

Many thanks,

Adam.

I did mine with greenlight insurance. they are a broker who specialise in perf cars and modified cars.

they've always been very good with me and the cheapest i have every found.

give them a shout.

Enjoy the Car!

Mess about with where you park the car overnight on comparison sites, find which is cheapest out of your options. Same applies for your job title, again, within reason.

I found that adding my drivers license number dropped my quote from £1350 to £1050. Worth a try.

Will try that, changing my job to accountant from auditor helped massively! Will try the parking too. Thanks.

Admiral, Bell, Tesco all used to be good for me when I was younger and trying to get insured on a faster car!

Will give bell a go thanks! Admiral are who I'm with currently, but want to charge me more now I have a tracker. Tesco won't touch me with my age and car.

I'm a year older than you and my insurance is due next month on my Cooper S, only reasonable companies are privilege, elephant, and tesco. Make sure you get GAP insurance as well if the car's on any kind of finance/lease/pcp, I wouldn't be without it on an S3 since they seem to be quite desirable to thieves.

Suspect you might have to bend over a bit this year, my insurance has halved this year now that I'm 20 so you should be fine after that.
Just thought, have you tried your current insurer? if they've been willing to change the policy onto the s3 for a reasonable amount they might be alright come renewal time?

The driving courses you mentioned are largely not worth the cost, my brother as well as one of my mates both did pass plus and said the discount was negligible.

Hi mate, yeah I've got GAP insurance, wouldn't entertain the idea of no GAP. I turn 20 in June aha! I rolled forward my insurance from my old Fiesta w/ Admiral and it was ok pricing, mainly due to the fact I did have a fiesta. But now they wanna increase my premium by £200 now I have a tracker fitted? My renewal isn't till 1/9/18, hence why maybe looking elsewhere with current provider looking to shaft me now I have a tracker.

To be honest mate if they haven't shafted you for the changeover to the fiesta I'd swallow the bill for the tracker. Have you tried running quotes for when your current policy expires? I'd imagine they'll be a good bit cheaper.

If you cancel just now you'll have wasted your no claims bonus earned so far over your current policy and will be back to where you were before the policy started.

Current policy expires in 7 months time so no insurers go that far ahead. Yeah I know I'd lose it, but was weighing up saving vs a few months lost. It's more the principle of how adding a tracker which makes a car safer, would increase your risk.

Forgot to mention - The S3 might not actually be too bad on insurance, despite popular belief. When I was running quotes for my Cupra before purchasing, it was coming up at £1,200 whereas a 15 plate S3 Auto 3dr was coming up at £900.

Best quote so far is £2,800 from Elephant, rest from "Specialist performance insurance for young drivers" are coming out at £4,200 aha! My age, power of car and value I know are going against me, I'm not nieve expecting comparable prices to my 65 plate fiesta. However, I didn't know if there are specialists I've missed, or maybe advanced driving courses that might help.

Thanks for the advice.

Having a blackbox fitted to the car will definitely help, driving courses are probably not really worth it.

That's pretty grim, I was only 21 at the time of looking with 0 NCB.

Just keep messing about with quotes. The 'nice' point for getting a quote is typically 2 weeks before renewal. Don't forget if you're looking for quotes 7 months down the line, replicate that now by up'ing your age and driving experience/NCB accordingly, that's what I do. That way you know what you can expect.

Adrian Flux? Join a Facebook group or similar for Audi's, they tend to have 10-15% discounts for being a member. At least that's the case with Cupra clubs.

I'm with elephant for a ds3r. Was pretty much no difference between them and Adrian flux. Same when I quote up a remap and exhaust to it.
