Filing a V888 form about an old car I'd like to get my hands on, does anybody know if there is a fee and if so how much it is? Can't seem to see anything about cost on their website. Cheers

All the info is on the downloadable .pdf document on the V888 link

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/v888-re...

£5 flat, but it's £2.50 for information about a vehicle involved in an accident or abandoned on your private property, trespassing, etc.

However you need to give reasonable cause as to why you need the information - if it's not your request will be voided / returned. So basically if you just want info because you're trying to trace a car because it has a specific licence plate attached to it that you want to buy or if you want to trace an old car you sold years ago and want to know who the current owner & where they're located - it's going to be rejected.

This regularly crops up on "trace your old car" threads and people suggest using the V888 request, but the DVLA will only give you the info it's related to a car you can prove you currently own and want some history related to previous owners to you, or if there's a valid reason like those listed above (accident) or otherwise it's to be used by companies tracing car owners to chase for fines, trespassing on property, etc.

So wanting to buy it to restore it and use for the family again won't fly with the friendly DVLA then? Any advice on what I could possibly do to find it?

Not from the DVLA's perspective, no.

How do you know of the car? Is it parked up on some land in your local area or something?

I'd suggest some door knocking, polite notes left with your contact details and so on.

I tried that, I'd now like to get their details so I can ask them to move it before I resort to police action

Wait, if it's your land, yes, the V888 form is appropriate to use.

Edit: Missed the sarcasm.

Luckily the only pictures of the car I have to hand are some from an old for sale ad, in the pictures it's blocking an entire path and a driveway.
