Cant see any real pitfalls other than your friend might be in for a surprise on valuation if you go the ebay route.

Or any other sale route.

Who gave the valuation?

Looking at very simlar plates on offer , asking prices range £500/£1250 , think blue propeller with 4 wheel drive , number starting X
Being careful , otherwise might be accused of advertising

He thought £250, so even at £500 starting , I think he would be happy

I sold mine on there but it wasn't very quick. Had it priced fairly on buy now, Took months and eventually some Welsh bloke bought it admittedly whilst drunk and forgot he'd bought it until a few days later haha!

I would stay away from bids as I doubt it's going to have many takers so wouldn't click up much interest.

If he's wanting 250 for it then add on the PayPal and eBay fees deductible on top of this amount and have it on a never ending buy now price.

Realistically nobody's going to pay more than a couple hundred for an X5 ABC style plate. Unless it's X(1,2,3,4,5,6) BMW ??

Been looking for a 3x3 plate on eBay for a couple of months now. The amount of lunatics valuing their plates at 4x what they’re actually worth is absurd!

Asking prices aren't reflective of true value.
There's highly priced st on eBay that's been there for years.

The plate is now listed. No sale no fee ,nothing to loose .
You never know. A X* owner with the right initials might come along .

Guessing it’s: X5 PBR

£350 isn’t unreasonable for the right person ... I have an X5 plate and paid £399 (I think from the DVLA ages ago for it)

So, so far we've got £250, £350 and £500.

One more and he'll have the four figures he was after.
