Updated 2019 Mustang GT350 announced

Ford reveals GT350 updates, but the one change UK customers are waiting for remains elusive...

Ford has announced a handful of tweaks to its reputedly brilliant GT350, the racy Mustang said to be benefitting from "the very latest in track and street technology".

New 19-inch aluminium wheels come equipped with GT350-specific Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres - 295/35 front and 305/35 rear - the tread pattern and compound both having been optimised for the car. Ford claims that the new rubber alone delivers "significantly improved acceleration and lateral acceleration, as well as braking." Meanwhile, recalibrated springs and dampers help the 2019 car to take full advantage of those gains.

Aerodynamic improvements come in the form of an "optimized grille closeout" to improve airflow up front, and an all-new rear spoiler with optional Gurney flap - because racecar - at the rear. The wing is said to have been designed and tuned with experience gained from the wind tunnel development of both the upcoming Shelby GT500 and Mustang race cars.

Both the engine and transmission are unchanged, but then they were hardly lacking before. The 5.2-litre flat-plane V8 remains the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine Ford has ever produced, with 526hp and 429lb ft at its shrieking 8,250rpm redline. The accompanying six-speed manual gearbox is one of the best in the business, too.

Velocity Blue and Ford Performance Blue paint colours are both now available outside, while the suede-lined interior features an eight-inch Sync 3 touch screen and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control as now standard.

The 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 will be available to customers in the US starting in early 2019, with prices expected to start around the $50,000 mark and enrolment in a complimentary Track Attack driving program included in the cost of each vehicle. Now Ford just has to put the steering wheel on the right side and we're in business...

Export the damn thing to Europe, even in lhd we would buy it if it could be ordered from ford dealers in the UK. Chevy sell corvettes this way.
Selling the mustang in rhd has helped develop a massive interest in the top spec mustang over here. Loads of people would buy this car in Europe.

Car looks great but close up that top grill looks really naff with only half of it being actually used for cooling!

Assuming the price was sensible, I'd have one in a heartbeat. Certianly over a Bullitt.

I reckon this is one of the best sounding cars in current production. I'd love one.

I'd move away from BMW in a flash for one of these!

Why or why cannot they not bring it to the UK frown

I have so much want for one of these. Instead I'll have to console myself with the regular GT but I'm not surprised Ford don't export these to here as homologating this car for Europe probably makes no financial sense and I get the feeling they can sell everyone they can make in the US.

295 tyres on the front? Overkill surely. Wonder how awful the tramlining and turning circle is!

Conversion may not be straightforward.

Seem to remember (from a video somewhere - Matt Farah maybe?) the conversion from cross to flat plane crank wasn't straightforward as it wasn't designed in from the start. It was more of an engineer's 'wouldn't it be cool if we could', project, and resulted in some odd ancillary placements, and inefficient pipe routings. This may also make the conversion to rhd problematic.

However, for the life of me I can't remember what these were, or where I found it. Which is frustrating. Maybe another PH'er knows.

What a fantastic take on a modern muscle car. It and the new GT show Ford can turn out nice designs when they want to - it's a shame it doesn't filter down the mainstream models.

Rhd could be an issue. Steering rack would be unique so would brake servo etc. Oil cooler and headers would all need thought. Hence forget rhd and just sell it in lhd export spec. Use lights and mirrors off export gt. Done.

If it’s emissions related stick the stock coyote engine in. But leave everything else pure, and include a gt350 inlet manifold kit in the boot for £1. That would give you much of the high reving goodness just without the flat plane crank. Exactly the same as a GT4 gt350 uses a stock coyote in a gt350 body. That way it could be rhd too.... one day in charge at Dearborn is all I need wink

@AndyBarrat - could you place a request with Ford US for this and do some customer focus group testing? I’m sure we could collectively place enough deposits to warrant the work.

This time it is, apparently, a replica baseball on a chromed shaft with a sliding collar at the top of the shaft. There is, as is now the tradition, a very small gap between the collar and the gearknob ...

Still saving to import one it's probably going to take 18-24 Months to get to the number I need. frown I could just go for the base model but it has to be the 350R.

Flat plane crank probably makes it an awful sounding car, basically a sonic benefit of dual inline fours

Do Clive Sutton not do a gt350 conversion on UK cars? Although for a hefty price.
