Looking to buy some wheels off eBay which are collection only. They're not that local plus not wanting to upset eBay I won't be viewing in advance.
Seller has put PayPal as payment option but assume would prefer cash. It's my preference as can lob on a credit card but also if there are any issues do you still get PayPal protection on collection items?

Got a link to the wheels? Ive been on ebay a long time and can spot a dodgy one pretty easy. Not on the market for alloys so i wont steal the deal

I presume PayPal is put on the listing as a default option, so the issue is more for the seller. The seller should insist on cash only for collection and any half savvy eBayer should know this: You collect, pay by PayPal, put in a claim for item not received, PayPal ask seller for proof of delivery and there isn't any, PayPal refund you. You have the cash and the wheels (but also the risk of the guy turning up and deservedly lamping you).

PayPal is good for recorded deliveries as a seller. Personally I wouldn’t accept a paypal payment if a buyer is collecting as you give the buyer the option there and then to check and double check the item before parting with any cash.
As already mentioned PayPal only protects a seller if a tracked and recorded delivery has taken place.
If unsure about the purchase don’t do it

Hmm, having a look it doesn't have cash as an option. Sure it's probably just an oversight by the seller though.

I don't think they're dodgy, but just wondered what the safest option for everyone is on collection. If I raised a dispute with eBay, I assume they wouldn't be able to enforce a refund if paid by cash and there was an issue?

No, a cash deal is bugger all to do with PP.

To be fair I suppose it's like buying anything. Take cash, check them over there and if looks like one isn't as described then just chat it out with the sellers.

Just ask the seller if cash or PayPal is preferred before hitting the buy it now button.
If the price is right a re-furb will get all the wheels looking the same again
