A relatively local car dealership is looking for cars and has shown an interest in mine in previous months. I am now at the stage I want to sell as the head gasket is failing resulting in mayo contamination in the oil.

Since it’s a small trader I’m thinking about hiding the problem. I’m taking the car down to national for a oil and filter later. So it doesn’t get contaminated my friend who has a trailer has offered to put it on the trailer and then stop round the corner from the dealers where I’ll drive round like everything is normal.

I wouldn’t do this sort of thing if I was selling privately but since it’s a small trader I know I can get away with it (previous experience).

Any other things I should consider when masking the problem aside from the new oil and filter ?

I don't think this thread will go the way you are thinking.

Yes when you get in through the door look at the shiny car I part ex last week, but be careful has no brakes. What do you expect that's totally unethical, poor guy will be stuck with your car which you are getting shot of due to known fault.

I don't think an oil and filter change will mask the fact you are a dick.

IMO of course

The purpose of this thread is to make sure that I cover all the possible indicators of the failure. It’s not unethical it’s business.

Sorry guys this isn’t having the desired effect that I thought it would. I am a very ethical person and take offence to people suggesting otherwise.

I asked on the forum because at one point we have all done it. It was my way of asking for advice not to anger the community.

The car is a 2011 Renault Clio 1.5 DCI and the small dealer is in Glasgow.
