Hi all, need some advice please.

My Golf GTI MK7.5 has been stolen 8 month into a 24 month lease. The payout between my insurer and VW finance should be sorted within 2 weeks.

Where does this leave me in terms of not having a car? I waited 4 months for my original GTI order so can't really do that again.

Anyone been through a similar situation?

Thanks

Plenty of used golfs about, a golf R would be the natural successor.

Is this the point where you are thankful that you took out RTI GAP insurance, so you get the deposit back effectively? Or is it the point where the insurer has paid out the value of a second hand car to the finance company, which leaves you with a zero balance?

Sorry to hear it - similar happened to me a while ago (but it was a diesel Civic they took).

I ended up buying a dealer's demo / salesman's car as it was a few months old, right spec/colour and they didn't want silly money for it - could have it that week.

The lease companies sometimes get cancelled orders or will know dealers with stock that they can move quickly - may be worth seeing what's out there if you can be flexible.

Else if something else would have to be a factory order and you need to wait, there can be reasonable cost car hire for longer terms - all the major hire companies do hire on a monthly basis for considerably less than daily rates if you ask.

This could be an interesting alternative (if you have somewhere to plug it in) that I saw the other day - https://eevonline.com/ - used Zoe for £199/month on a rolling contract. Use it to get you about for a few months then give it back.

Insurer will settle with VWFS and then GAP will pay me my deposit direct

Great, then what's the issue?

Is it a rhetorical question?

It leaves you needing to buy a car or have a look for an in-stock lease deal rather than a factory order so you get quick delivery - there are plenty of them about.

This is exactly why I took GAP with initial deposit insurance too!

As others have said, brokers will have a variety of stock cars available for nearly immediate delivery, you might have to compromise on what you choose or the spec though. My car was delivered within a couple of weeks of me signing on the dotted line, they may even be able to expedite given the circumstances?

Might be worth a chat with whomever you used originally as they will no doubt be happy to have a second order from you so soon after the first one.

Sorry to hear about the theft, it's a horrible thing to have happen to you.
