Assigning private reg. to our new car

We have took the number off the old car, and now have the retention certificate.
We have bought our new car.
We have the V5C/2 which is the narrow green bit called "New Keepers Details"

Can I transfer our plate with just the V5C/2, or do I need to wait for the full V5C to make it's way from Swansea?
