on the lookout for a winter hack for the next 6-7 months and settled on finding a roughish Vectra B V6. it ticks all the boxes for me comfy seats easy to work on, cheap and because I've also got a thing for Omegas a lot of interchangeable spares. trawling the classifieds theres not a single one for sale frown

I know their getting on a bit but bloody hell they've vanished, even the vectra Cs are a bit thin on the ground getting

Many of these (and the mk1s) ended up on the banger track.

They are dying out around here, although they seem to be the council badmans weapon of choice oddly enough.

I had a 97 plate one in 2007.

It was absolutely rotten.

I haven't seen a vectra B that didn't look like it was a MOT away from the scrapper in years.

Exactly the same story with Omegas.

I said the same about MK3 Cortinas, it seemed every other car was a MK3 Cortina in the late 70s.

They stopped making them ten years ago, the later model, the original one sixteen years ago, they are still out there but not seen a first gen in years and the second gen is quite forgettable but must be dying out as well, Insignia never seemed to sell as well.

Look for something else, Japanese maybe ?

Primers seems to have all but disappeared now as well.

They were that when they were brand new, so no change there.

Don't think I've ever seen one driven by anyone other than a tattooed meathead.

I wouldn’t say Omegas were the same. I quite frequently see healthy looking, if not showroom fresh, Omegas out and about. Haven’t seen a Vectra B in a while at all, never mind a fresh one.

It’s finny how 10 years or even 16 years is now “old”.

My F10 535d is 8 going on 9 years old and it’s as new condition to think Vectras were scrapped at 10 years is a horrendous act of vandalism to the environment.

I don’t think that argument will get you into Greenpeace but sort of agree, cars could last longer but become uneconomical to repair/keep going, especially in the UK, I see perfectly serviceable looking cars that run fine going for scrap, because they need tyres, brakes, a suspension component or two.

Back when I was a kid, old heaps were kept going long after they were rotten smoking death traps.

I’m sure I see a good dozen or so Vectra Bs a day. They definitely seemed to rot less than a lot of competitors
