Has your car ever been deliberately damaged?
Discussion
I tried to make this a Yes/No poll but it won't play.
I have a 2016 Ford Kuga that lives outside the front of my house (semi rural village location).
The car sits behind a pair of steel gates (not usually locked) that open on to the roadway. There's no pavement on my side. The frontage is walled all round.
I came home at about 9.30pm last night and the car was fine then. About to go out at 4.30pm today,
I came out to find this.

This has been done with something sharper than a key and it's deep.
Someone's done this while hiding behind the car, which was 4 feet away from the front wall of the house.
I heard the schoolkids coming home (the station's behind my house) but I didn't hear the gate. I think
someone's hidden behind the car to do this. Having had cars messed with before the gates went on, I have
a mock CCTV camera right opposite, on top of the mirror I use to pull out.
So, either someone during the night or pre 4.30pm.
I look after my stuff and I respect the property of others. What the juddering f
k in wrong with someone
who'd do such a thing?
Not a happy bunny.

Yes, you have my sympathy.
Our old Focus was keyed down the side, on the roof and bonnet. Technically an insurance write off, but luckily we had a mate at the time who did it after hours at the bodyshop he worked at.
Could have been worse though, they did a few cars on the street that night. Neightbours new Saab 9-3 ended up with a cock and balls scratched on the bonnet.

You certainly have my sympathies.
My daily VW Up is as you know nothing flashy but still got keyed along the rear door and fender, so it's in for paint in a week, something it absolutely not needed since it has 16000 miles on it. Bummed is an understatement
I live in a rather nice if not posh part of town but there is alot of kids and young families and over the years pretty much all my cars have been keyed of damaged until I managed to source a garage, the M5 resides in there so the Up is parked on the street..
Honestly I cant grasp why ppl would do that to anyones car.

This escalated gradually over a period of three years:
- wife's car - wing mirror toyed with many times a year
- wife's car - wing mirror glass smashed. Fortunately, just a tenner to replace the glass.
- wife's car - entire wing mirror knocked off with a baseball bat or something. we were able to brute force it back on, but it's stuck in one position now.
- my car - entire wing mirror knocked off, same as above. This time, I needed a replacement from the scrapyard, fortunately only £18.
- wife's car - about 10cm of front windscreen seal pulled away. Won't go back in. This is annoying, because water will now seep into the a-pillar. Her car isn't valuable enough to justify fixing this.
- wife's car - wiper arms pulled up, just an annoyance.
The wing mirror incidents weren't from passing traffic because it was a wide road, and they would mess with other parts of the car as well as doing the wing mirror.
Couldn't really do anything about it. Seemed to be part of someone's saturday night coming home from the pub routine, to do something to our cars.
Even if we had night vision CCTV and got them caught, that would have been a caution at best. Then, they would have had a reason to cause some serious damage, and they would have just come back and been more careful.
On a funnier note, I used to have a 700kg fiat seicento. I came back once to find someone had managed to rotate it 90 degrees to face across parking bays.

Between 1997 and 2003 I lived in Epsom town centre. Off-street parking, but our road was a shortcut for the local pissheads. In the last two years, cars, including mine were the subject of door mirrors being ripped off, keying and even panels being kicked in. One night I ended up chasing a group of lads in just my underpants, as I was in bed at the time! Police didn’t want to know, so in the end it came to: me ending up doing time, or moving. We moved.
Yes, I park on a public street to walk to the station everyday.
Residents of this public street for some reason think they own public roads.
Car has been keyed multiple times and tyres slashed.
Have now changed the car for a more appropriate car for such damage. This car has not yet been vandalised but I guess no longer stands out.

Back when I was 17, I saved like mad for my first car, a mark one Escort 1100. We lived in a small close and I parked it on the side of the road, came out one morning to find brake fluid thrown over it. I even suspected I knew who did it, the bloke stood at his kitchen window opposite , (who was a complete
by the way) grinning like a cheshire cat as I surveyed the damage.
It just shows how cowardly some people are and for anyone who's ever had a car vandalised or maliciously damaged, I also know how you feel and you have my sympathies.

Thank you for the sympathies, they're very welcome.
I just had a word with Plod. I'd called in to report the incident but there wasn't a Bobby available to take a look.
They won't be sending anyone, as the damage is under 5 grand's worth. I'm be getting a crime number and that's that
'til I fix it.
I've concluded it was the result of a dare among the schoolies. It was Kendal Torchlight Festival last night and the
evil s
ts have recently returned after summer hols.
Someone suggested it was a grudge thing. I doubt it. I've lived here for eight years now and...
The wipers were lifted on two cars. No harm done but this prompted the gates.
Three traffic mirrors were wrenched down and thrown in the river, hence the mock CCTV. I'm between the pub and the caaahncil
houses. The last one went on New Years Eve at the hands of a man dressed as a Friesian.
The schoolkids use my frontage as a litter bin and occasionally sit at my patio set. I've never even spoken to them, let alone whinged. I just clean up the old train tickets, sweetie wrappers and crisp bags - no problem.
some twot raked the car's front quarter with a trolley at Morrison's 3 miles away.Sarcasm in pics on faecebook without ID-ing the car.
And that's that. I'm not at odds with anyone about anything, absolutely no grounds for a grudge.
So, another thing t write down to experience. I'm seriously thinking of changing to an older car
while I've still got a resale value on mine.
Meanwhile, the nature of the damage suggests the perp carries a knife. I hope he/she's caught in possession.

Fortunately I've never suffered damage at home. 5 incidents over 8 yrs you say! I just had a word with Plod. I'd called in to report the incident but there wasn't a Bobby available to take a look.

School children can be nasty little s
ts when they've found a victim, I know I was. Paint stripper poured over every panel of a ford orion I owned. Although an older model, it had previously been owned by a pensioner who cherished it and kept the mileage incredibly low. It was virtually mint.
Wasn't worth claiming on the insurance, so I blew it over with some cans.
Gutted wasn't the word.

I left out the other two. Two days after taking delivery of the car, an old fart reversed into the front, which was annoying as I could hear his reversing beeps going, even from inside my car . He was too ancient to be raved at but I phoned him later and we agreed on £20 for paint/materials. He paid - the only one to do so.

ts when they've found a victim, I know I was. A few days later, I was stuck at the lights when a stream of schoolies was walking by. Something unknown hit the B post hard enough to make me jump - and I'm not the jumpy kind. Fortunately no damage that time. But why? It's only a Kuga, not a Lambo or Ferrari.
It seems there's a lot of it about.
I'd get a dashcam but as someone said, this can escalate things.
I'd suggest a fixed-line Spandau but plod wouldn't like that.
My suggestion is simpler...
1: A collection of things that the perpetrators own, have saved for, appreciate and cherish. I mean mobile phones, laptops,
PCs, bicycles, skateboards and whatever else.
2: A road roller.
3: A bucket of bleach for when clothing is involved.
4: No redress whatsoever, legal or otherwise.
Then see how they like it.

I can see how that may not go as well as you hope for. I'd get a dashcam but as someone said, this can escalate things.
