Examples of bad driving that are increasingly becoming a thing. Not just odd instances but becoming more regular.
Two I have in mind.

1. Pulling up at a junction so far form the centre line that you block cars turning left. In the image below there's often traffic approaching from the left and turning into this side road which means you're left waiting for ages when - if the car in front had common sense - you should be able to turn left with ease. Only thing I can think of is it's a defence mechanism against people who cut corners as they turn into side roads.

2. Cars entering the outside lane of a roundabout when cars are in the inside lane roundabout.
It happens a lot here https://www.google.com/maps/@52.0934346,-0.5135593...

Because of the number of cars turning left, I tend to approach in the right hand lane to go straight on. The other day a van entered from the left while I was on the roundabout. I wasn't indicating right (which would have meant I was using the roundabout to do a u-turn). I don't blame the roundabout layout, it's a definite poor driiving thing and something I've seen several times over recent months.

I did think about posting on the dashcam thread but they're not dramatic enough and I'd be labelled a Dash Cam W****r, and although they annoy me I don't think it's beyond reason. Any others?

Apart from it being a single lane, the impatient person sneaking up on the left blocks your view left whilst you block their view right. Also sticking close to the center means that any turning truck/bus/MkX Jag coming from the left are going to have to swing pretty wide to miss you.

It's not clear form the picture but, if everyone's considerate there is *loads* of room for two cars. It's not "sneaking up the left", visibility is good.
Especially important as 90% coming from the left is turning into this junction so left turners are held up a lot for no reason. Oh, and HGVs are not allowed up this road, so that shouldn't be an issue, but even if it is, do what I do when I'm coming up that way, let a car or two out before turning as it's a windy road through the village with speed bumps so no disadvantage or delay in doing so.

Centre positioning. There is one junction near me where I place my car in the centre of the road having had my nearside wing mirror taken off in the past and also the car squeezing on my left would block my view of traffic, I would argue its quicker for all and safer at that particular junction.

The car "sneaking up" on the left will almost certainly be able to get out of the junction quicker than he one on the right, so just let them go.

People not indicating and people who are unable to follow the basic rules of roundabouts. Particular bugbears are:

1. People going right on a roundabout with four exits who look at you aghast when you pull out thinking they were going straight on as they weren't indicating and people going left

2. People sitting at a roundabout (with at least 3 exits, so most roundabouts!) looking right who won't move until there's nothing coming from that way.

3. People who go left at a roundabout without indicating causing other people to wait thinking they are going straight on (at a 4 exit roundabout), can also apply at other smaller and larger roundabouts!

People turning left at a give way. In our village they seem to assume that means just rock up to the junction and pull out unless you're going to cause a totally unavoidable accident.

I'm going to have to disagree with point 1. If a car comes up on the left it blocks the view of the car already there. It may make turning left quicker but it makes turning right more dangerous. I purposely position myself in the middle to stop motorists behind me from doing this. It isn't a case of enforcing the queue I just don't want to allow anybody else to hinder my visability.

People treating 'give way' signs as 'someone will give way' signs.

Add people turning right (exit 3 or higher) from the left-hand/outer lane.

ETA, and people turning left/1st Exit from the right-hand entry lane (happens all the time near Horsham at the top of the A24 roundabout, coming from Crawley. One day someone is going to (legally) go straight on from the left-hand lane and catch one of these idiots out.

Another for roundabouts :

People who are going straight on at a roundabout which has two or more lanes on the approach (but no actual lane markings on the roundabout). They will start in the left lane, and you can virtually guarantee that unless your car is ahead of their's by a nose - they will go in as straighter line as possible. You either have to brake hard to avoid them driving into the front side of your car, or hit the horn and hope they hear it.

....and make sure to upload the dashcam footage to YouTube in the hope it goes viral.

Or just hang back knowing that people drive like fkwits and just let them get on with it with you a couple of car lengths behind.

The absence of lane markings on the roundabout is irrelevant, many people will merrily drive straight across even if there are well marked lanes.

My bugbear - going straight on from a lane clearly marked as a right turn lane. Happens a lot at a big roundabout on the way home, I'll always make sure that I block them off because I can be as big a tt as them smile

In reality, that's not always practical. There is one roundabout in particular I use on the way home - it's not easy to find a gap to get onto it, and if you always had to make sure you were behind the car on your left, you'd either never be able to pull out, or be doing so slowly enough that somebody on the roundabout would hit you (and then probably post on here....)

I think most of this thread can be summed up in FYIGM.

F**k You, I Got Mine.

You'll have to forgive that it is an Americanism (so not just my poor grammar) but it sums up the road situation perfectly. I don't actual believe that drivers are worse, its just that they're lazy and arrogant about it.

In fact on that topic, I don't like calling it "bad" driving. "bad" implies that its not their fault and they cant improve... yes it is their fking fault and yes they can improve, they just don't want to. Its lazy and arrogant driving.

Interesting, first thing to come to my mind was corner cutting seems to be on the increase - suspect it's more to do with wider and wider cars which also plays a part in your number 1.
