Autoaid Terms and Conditions for Recovery?

so planning to move away from RAC this year, and come across autoaid but need some more clarification on thier recovery policy. taken from their policy documents:
Emergency roadside repairs
We will arrange and pay call-out fees and labour charges to repair the vehicle at the roadside and so allow your journey to continue. If the vehicle cannot be repaired at the scene of the breakdown, we will pay the cost of taking the vehicle, you and up to 5 passengers from the place where the vehicle has broken-down to the nearest available garage.
Recovery of the vehicle and its passengers
We will arrange and pay the cost of taking the vehicle, you and up to 5 passengers from the place where the vehicle has broken-down to any one place you choose.
General exclusions
3. The cost of recovering the vehicle and its passengers if the vehicle can be repaired within a reasonable period of time at or near the place where it has

so im a bit confused by these statements. incase of a breakdown i just want to be towed back home regardless if im 300 miles away from home if its not a simple enough fix. the middle part above states they will take the car to any one place you choose, but the first part says they will take it to the nearest available garage. reason i want to avoid nearest available garage is because they tend to be expensive for doing repairs on the spot.
also under general exclusions clause 3 states "near the place where it has broken-down."
does that mean again they will take it somewhere for repairs insted of a tow back home?

It seems quite clear.
If your cover is for roadside repair the first paragraph applies. As this doesn’t include recovery they will repair it at the roadside or if unable to they will take it to the nearest garage instead.

It is all subbed out. That is the risk you take, with the AA you get (usually) an AA engineer who is usually interested in fixing your car. With Autoaid you will get some local guy who might not give a s
t about getting you back on the road. Or you might get a local guy who is good at his stuff, its a bit of a lottery. At least now you don't have to pay for repairs up front. I use it.

They are cheaper because they don't rip you of like the AA and the RAC who every year increase the premium and have you telephone them to get the 'introductury rate' when you threaten not to renew. Non of that with Autoaid (who are competing for business).
Autoaid has no vans because like everything nowadays they dont's need them.It makes no sense when most of roadside repairs are flat batteries and punctures. Gone are the days of changing a set of points or and alternator at the side of the road.
I dumped the AA and RAC years ago.They are living in the dark ages.
Apparently the RAC don't consider them a competitor as I found out when discussing the RAC rip off renewal. Something to do with not having their vehicles plastered with a logo..
Did get £55 off the renewal and a promise next year will be same price as this year, sounds like the RAC are running scared of the competition.

Is it though ?When your policy ends speak to the renewals team - I'm paying £120 for relay - 4 members in any cars (with a trailer/ caravan) no limits on age / size
And we had 2 breakdowns last year

Funny that, because on an average shift in my yellow van it's few and far between that I deal with things as trivial as flat batteries or simple wheel changes. I regularly fit alternators, starter motors, crank/cam/wheelspeed sensors and EGR valves at the roadside. As well as repairing wiring harnesses, picking locks to retrieve locked in keys, DPF related repairs and regens, helping little old ladies cross the road and everything in between. I recently got a Bedford HA van going with a new set of points and a condenser too.They are cheaper because they don't rip you of like the AA and the RAC who every year increase the premium and have you telephone them to get the 'introductury rate' when you threaten not to renew. Non of that with Autoaid (who are competing for business).

So no, it really isn't a case of "gone are the days". Being in the trade I get to learn of all manner of third party contractor issues; as mentioned above it really is a lottery who attends. As a pure recovery service, there are plenty of options, but you get what you pay for. Everyone has choices though, like getting your groceries; some choose Waitrose and some prefer Heron Foods. There's a market for all.
You are comparing apples with oranges. Autoaid is insurance policy not a breakdown recovery service. With Autoaid if you breakdown you arrange the recovery or 'fix' yourself and pay for it with your own money and then claim it back. They will also help you arrange it all if you call them and request it.
So with autoaid i got to pay for recovery then send receipt off to them to get money back? Odd way to do things but as long as they pay out without any fuss then its ok.
There isnt anything in the policy document about paying and claiming back. Seems odd for them to miss out something so important to how they work.

With all due respect you may wish to seek the help of an adult in your family to get you through this as you are clearly struggling with this very simple matter. There is a phone number where you can ring them and ask all these questions instead of writing lengthy threads on the internet to randoms who are going to have less of a clue than simply picking up the fThere isnt anything in the policy document about paying and claiming back. It took me a 5 second internet search to find the details on the last page of the policy document.
Just pay your £250 and go with the RAC and be done with it and we can bring an end to this nonsense thread.

It used to be, now you just pay your annual fee and don’t pay anything else. Great service. I’ve used them a few times. I just get the car in question recovered to my house/workshop when I ran a business and fix it myself. If you want the local recovery person can fix/try and fix at scene. helix402 said:

I have never had to use them since joining, but that is how I understand they now operate.I used to be with CSMA/Brittania Rescue, and they did the same same thing as Auto Aid for about 4x the price.
It's a recovery service, and modern cars mostly cannot be repaired at the roadside, unless you are the sort of driver that does not know an engine needs oil or that tyres need air.
I can't see the AA or RAC ever repairing my car at the roadside of a busy motorway. What are they going to do? Change the gearbox or engine?
