Looking to get a set of Michelin Pilots.

The dreaded Kwik Fit have quite a good deal....cheapest price and a free dash cam.

I'd always run a mile from the firm....but what are the experiences with the mobile service? Any better?

Only looking as last time I had tyres fitted by a good local firm, thry managed to scuff quite badly one of the alloys. Mine are pretty mint, so I'm worried who to trust!

Mobile generally better that the normal way?

Used once (they were they sole fitters approved for company cars) and chap turned up on time, did the job quickly without damaging anything and also inflated and balanced the wheels perfectly. Quite impressed.

I've used their mobile service a couple of times, as have colleagues. They've been great so far, a lot easier than taking the car to a garage and hanging about whilst they fit the tyres.

Thanks guys.....sounds good.

My experience with normal fitting places has never been great.....I was hoping that having it done at home might ensure a more careful job....

I would have thought that the mobile fitter would do a better job, especially with the owner hanging about.
If you are sitting in a waiting area, you have a lot less idea about what’s going on.

My pal is a mobile fitter for KF. It took him 3 years and a lot of grovelling to get out on the road. His opinion is everyone at KF wants to be a mobile fitter, but they only take the better, more qualified and experienced guys.

His thinking is that 50% of the time he is sitting in an airconditioned van, listening to music away from the general population; he has his van as a company van to get to/back from work too!

I had to use one a couple of months ago to fix a Sunday puncture. They haven't half changed - for the better. No outrageous unnecessary upselling and polite, quick service. Enquiring as to why the bonnet was up for a puncture repair I was told that they were just topping up the washer bottle. I still prefer my local indie fast fit but I was pleasantly surprised.

Quick update -

Managed to get a cancellation, and they came today.

Service was awesome - chap had been fitting 15 years with KF - so it holds up the theory that it's the more experienced fitters out on the road.

Full set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4, all on within 45 minutes, and no alloy marks at all.

Only one slight gripe, I had an AM appointment (was told around 9.30), but he didn't arrive until about 3pm. Not a problem, as I had someone here all day with the car whilst I was at work, but if I'd had taken time off, could have been a slight issue.

Either way, I'm just happy with the job, and the excellent tyres. Guy was really polite and professional. I'm actually going to call customer care to praise him, as I always think good service should be highlighted.

Would definitely use again!

Mobile fitters seem better trained and more rounded individuals vs back of the shop garage fitters (my experience anyhow after having a few wheels damaged in their hands).

I've used Event tyres (out of business now) and more recently Tyres on the Drive. The chap was brilliant, he even lined up those yellow dots to the valves without being asked.

I’ve used them once before a few years ago and as others have said, it was a faultless experience.

I’ve been using a local guy who was a Black Circles approved fitting centre for the last few years but sadly he’s given up (tyres in general, not Black Circles) as he wasn’t able to make it pay, so back to the drawing board next time.

Edited to add: I can’t say that i’ve ever had a negative experience with any Kwik Fit branch that I’ve used either if I’m honest.

I've actually never used them myself but I was helping a friend out when she needed a new wheel. Got the trusty tyre iron out which immediately slipped off leaving me with skinned knuckles. Kwik fit Van across the road was just finishing up, asked him for the right tool and he was more than happy to oblige. Popped the wheel off, got the new wheel off the back seat and fitted it. Slipped the fella a tenner for his efforts. They do seem to have far superior service to the stereotypical "S**t-fit" stories of old. I use them all the time for balancing and tracking, they seem to be the only competent company near me now!
