Cupra stolen West Lancashire
Discussion
So, 5 weeks before my lease was due to end, Cupra stolen off the drive while I was at work this afternoon.
Looks like the usual MO - front door kicked in, keys stolen.
Thankfully all of us out when it happened - wife came home to wide open front door. Car gone from driveway. Keys stolen from in master bedroom.
b
ds.
Wife is shaken. Daughter seems remarkably relaxed.
Now to deal with police, insurers, locksmiths and lease company. And I never did take out gap insurance two years ago.

I’d suggest a safe for new car keys and a better front door
I'd suggest no safe. Leave keys out of sight of windows but still downstairs.Last thing you want is some scrote with a baseball bat waking you up demanding the keys from the safe.
I deliberately didn’t choose either of those two cars given their reputation. I also live in a small village with (until today) no recorded crime.
Something weird about the front doors - there are two. Outer one undamaged and inner (wooden) one broken. Will review security pronto.
Cheers for heads up on Gap. Priority with insurance is to make sure I’m not out of pocket beyond the excess.
Might need to trade the cats in for a nasty dog....

My cat would do more damage than my dog. Something weird about the front doors - there are two. Outer one undamaged and inner (wooden) one broken. Will review security pronto.

Bit of bummer. And hopefully it won’t be too painful. Thankfully it was going anyway.
Just need to get its replacement 5 weeks early.

Yes, but if they make it upstairs they will be risking my own arsenal of weapons!
If they've made it upstairs you haved failed in your manly duty to dominate the landing.VAGLover said:

So long as they don’t come back - has now occurred to me that the car as well as the house have been watched. Given it’s just been doing trips between home and the local station, it’s time to bring forward a station car. Next decent vehicle is staying in the garage. Bit of bummer. And hopefully it won’t be too painful. Thankfully it was going anyway.

Shortly after posting the last post, a knock at the door.
Policeman round to ask some questions and give me a crime number. Genuinely impressed that he had the time (he didn’t, but he made it) to come out.
Expecting the CSI people around later but he expects they won’t find anything.
So now a long day of phoning various organisations to start the ball rolling....
At least I haven’t got a mega busy day at work. Oh, hold on.... What a pain in the arse..!

CSI found prints for mine. Turned out to be a mega chop shop in Brum; the found the gang and it is still in trial process.Policeman round to ask some questions and give me a crime number. Genuinely impressed that he had the time (he didn’t, but he made it) to come out.

OP - I had a lease car stolen. Generally GAP only covers your insurance excess, luckily you had the car for nearly your full term... The insurer will deal directly with the lease company. You will need to find a new car..

That’s really helpful. Thanks. Excess is £350, which I can live with. Assume I’ll also have to pay the remaining months due to VWFS? Could be 1 or 2 payments, so potentially I’m down the best part of £1k. Plus the cost of repairing the broken door. G

Where about's in west lancashire? I've got one on order due for delivery in December
Don’t want to give too much away for obvious reasons. Let’s say the M6 side of Ormskirk. Small village. I think one crime recorded in 2019 (so I’ve now doubled it).
I had thought that a combination of location, crime figures, it not being a Golf R/ Audi S3 would have been enough. I think I was just unlucky.
But a very targeted burglary - only the car has gone and I can’t see how they spent more than 2 mins inside the house.

My parents live in a small village (population of under 700 people) in Bucks which is as sleepy as they come, but they've had a letter through the door from the police warning them to be vigilant due to a wave of burglaries / car thefts in the surrounding area. It seems the scrotes are cruising around during daylight hours to find targets parked on driveways, then coming back at night and helping themselves.
Scum will always prey on nice areas, I guess.

I think they will end your agreement and not pursue for the remaining, if they chose to write off the car.. This is what happened to me..G
