How much damage is it? £2200 comes around surprisingly quickly.

Who knows - In any event it would probably be better to get the car written off, get your £5k, buy it back for £500, then repair it for 1/8th the price yourself.

WTF have you hired that's going to cost £3k whilst they fix a bumper???

A decent sized hire car (Astra/Focus type of thing) is £500 for a full month.

I’m pretty confident that he was suggesting the TOTAL repair cost (inc hire vehicle) might breach £3k, not that the hire car itself will cost £3k.

It has gone through AX.

Dealt with them once before very good service.
Why the need for an accident management company especially if the damage is so light?

Not using an expensive accident management company with silly car hire fees might have saved the bill being high enough to write your car off.

This is what is screwing premiums.

I'm pretty confident he wasn't.

Yada yada yada.

I've dealt with them before when someone decided it would be a good idea to T bone me on whilst I was riding my Fazer. They were brilliant from start to finish.

Yes the damage to my car was light.

Yes I could have sent the bill to the nob who went into me.

BUT...

Would he have paid?

How long would I have been without a car? I need a car to get to work and back.

I pay insurance in the event should I need to use it then I will. It's easy to take the moral high ground when you're on the other side of the fence.
What do this have to do with an accident management company?

They are nothing to do with your insurance and they just put the total insurance bill up more

Moral high ground?

Maybe pay for a good insurance policy that you don't need to use an accident management company?

Who pays? If he's insured his insurance company. You should have dealt directly with them. If they didn't play ball, which they would if their customer is at fault, they would have been eager to sort it out fast.

If his insurance company doesn't pay you are on the hook for the accident management company. It's a credit hire agreement.

A small bump ends up with stupid costs. It's totally pointless especially over a bumper.

We paid for a good insurance policy, who sent us straight to AX when someone drove into the other half's car. Nice to hear that they sort it, although the £100+ per day cost for the loaner is a bit steep..!

It was 3 days before we heard from the third party's insurance, and SWMBO needed to get home from the car park she was stuck on with an un-driveable car so dealing with their insurers wasn't an option.

Rear bumper damage.
Why is a hire car needed at all?
Some bumper damage won't stop you driving it whilst the new one is ordered in.
Body shop should give you a loan car whilst the bumper is being fitted and painted surely?

I don't think insurance companies actually pay these inflated car hire bills.

you're right, there's an agreed charging structure that's a fraction of these costs

In fairness to the OP I had a claim i went direct to the third parties insurance company with.

They were a well known insurance company not on comparison sites. It was a horrendous experience , they lied to me, bullied me, bullied the garage into changing their quote.

I reckon I lost 2k with no hire car charges. Car was a classic and ended up off the road for a year .

I fully understand why people use accident management companies when faced with the lies, Bullying and blackmail of big insurers.

The moment they start playing silly buggers, ring them up and say sort it now or I’m off to an accident management company. If they know there driver is in the wrong then most insurance companies want to avoid an AMC. They want it done and dusted with fast not some AMC fleecing them for a st load on top.

Yet make a no-fault claim on your own insurer and generally they'll just pass you on to their pet AMC.
