Hi all,

been reading a few things online and still trying to figure out the difference between the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and 4S.

It's about £3 in cost... and unless I've confused myself it seems like the S is a softer more sporty / summer compound and the standard 4 is a bit more all season.

Am I off the mark or is that about right?

Plan is to go from Bridgestone RFT's to Michelins non RFT ...

Thanks,
Alex.

PS4 is the evolution of the PS range, PS4S is the evolution of the MPSS range

As has been explained already.

The PS4 is also a pure summer tire.
I have the PS4S on my 997 and I can highly reccomend them!
BTW, what car is it? I presume a Mini or a BMW..

All explained above, but just to add my Mustang came with MP4S tyres, and I can't rate them highly enough.

So there ste in winter then, seeing as there a summer tyre? Don’t mean to hijack post but what’s difference between DT1 tyre and non DT1? To my understanding the DT1 is a newer 2019 model? Is this right? And the non DT1 is a pre face lift model if you like? Lol

For road use the PS4 is fine. For road use and occasional track work the PS4S works better I believe.

What has better grip? From my understanding the cup 2 are great for track but not great to daily with, well not great I’m comparison to PS4 and PS4s. But what’s the better gripping tyre out of the 4? Pre Dt1 or Dt1? I have a torquey 4WD, well haldex set up so front biased, I wheel spin when flooring it which I didn’t expect to be experiencing, also occasional bunny hop. I should add 2 Goodyear eagle f1 on rears and 2 continentals on front, so surely that mix up isn’t helping, would PS4(s) all round eliminate this 9/10 anyway

No they’re not st in winter. I have them on my XFR-S and Cooper-S. Great tyres, a bit less grip in the cold, but still better than a P-Zero in the summer.

As with any summer tyre, they have less grip in cold weather. I tend to notice a drop off around 6-7 degrees.

For a summer tyre though, the PS4S copes admirably well in cold weather/frosty morning, much better than any P-Zero I've ever driven on.

They're also bloody good in the wet.

Get it into a dealers to check the Haldex.

I had the same issue and the pump was faulty.

Fixed under warranty and no wheelspin with same budget Altimaxx tyres as I had before.

I should add the cars been mapped so a fair whack of added torque or wouldn’t that matter? Haldex filter was checked a few months back prior to map and was full of gunk was cleared up and re-fitted. Is there any other symptoms of haldex pump failing? Thing is I waved good bye to my warranty anorl eeek

Michelin Pilot 4s are great in winter - not as good as a winter tyre obviously but give it a mile to warm up and it's much better than other summer tyres. I notice the grip being less at 2 to 3 C and below, but after a mile they are great.

It's all relative so in -20C they might be terrible but in the UK on a typically chilly day which is 4-6 C they need a mile to warm up and then you get the legendary Michelin grip and feel. A really brilliant tyre.

I've just changed my Corvette from its original RFTs to a set of Michelin PS4S after doing exactly the same research. My use of cars is all weather, all year so I have a keen interest in wet grip. As you may have noticed, there's been one or two drops of rain in recent weeks...

Very pleased so far.

I’m running PS4 on an Audi A5 190 in Scottish weather, they’re a vast improvement on the Continentals that were on it, I’d recommend them

I replaced the MPSS on my old M140i with PS4. The PS4S wasn’t available in 18” sizes at the time, and although I liked the MPSS, I was never a fan of how they struggled with temps much below about 8 deg C

I found the PS4 to be equally as impressive as the MPSS in normal conditions, and significantly better in the cold. In fact when it was nippy outside, it would be very difficult to exaggerate just how much better it was than the old Super Sport.

It might not be the full fat sports tyre, but the PS4 is very good.
