I sold my Toyota hybrid, and bought... an old diesel!
No point having a car if you can't park it without worrying will the cat still be there when you get back.

With most EVs, stealing the battery would be far harder than just stealing the whole car. Battery pack thefts have been on the rise for about 5 years now.

Are manufacturers doing anything in this area?
Why would they do anything? It happened to a guy I work with who took his car to Toyota and did an insurance claim for the theft and insurers paid out for a new cat from the dealer. That's a win for the dealer. What has the world come too

I know there's the argument it will put people off buying them but not really because to most the benefits outweigh the risk. Theft of vehicles with keyless ignition has been an iissue for around a decade and they haven't tackled that either.

Because they use very high efficiency cats with a higher loading of whatever combination of precious metals is used, to allow it to work more quickly when the engine kicks in to take over from the EV motor and the hot end is still cold.The recoverable precious metal content is therefore significantly higher than from a random diesel car, driving up scrap values...
One of the earlier Fords in the family housed the spare wheel underneath the car and a snip with some cutters would drop the cradle and the wheel would be gone.
Ford provided a fix to existing cars in which the centre of the wheel was attached to a bolt that secured internally.

I think they still use platinum as a catalyst don't they?
