Engine Oil (0W-30 / 5W-30)

My car has Mobil 1 0W-30 oil in it, can I top it up with Mobil 1 5w-30 (a litre bottle of which I just happened to have)?

Personally, I'd be tempted as the cold viscosity rating is pretty similar.

This. There are so many different specifications these days, it's no longer just a case of looking at the viscosity.

The cold viscosity is different - the hot viscosity is identical...

The 0 and 5 (the only differences from what you've described), describe the viscosity of the oil, with the lower the number meaning the thinner the oil and generally better cold start performance for the engine. Once up to temperature the performance should be similar given the "30" number is identical.

0W30 is suited for use in environments where the temperature ranges from about -40c to +30c. 5W30 from about -35c to +30c.

If your engine has a 5L capacity, with 4L of 0W-30 already in it and you add a litre of 5W-30, you'll effectively end up with approximately a 1W-30 oil.

Yes. Given that they are the same brand and type of oil, it's safe to assume they will be compatible. The viscosity difference is small enough to ignore.

All Api oils must be comparable otherwise they won't be Api rated, so look at the spec SN is I believe latest speck you can mix any Sn oil with ony other Sn oil regardless of viscosity or brand,
