Has anyone had any dealings with them?

I am buying a used car and the dealer is providing warranty by them. I am generally distrustful on warranty companies, but I am prepared to be delighted if they are a good one.

Lookers is the dealer in question.

All 3rd party warranties are worthless.
Dealer or Manufacturer warranties are the only ones to go for.

I’d forget the warranty, but should anything go wrong in six months after purchase it’s usually deemed the dealer’s liability to fix, presuming they’re still in business.

3rd party warranties are worthless as above, I’d also never buy a third party warranty directly either.

I just got myself a BMW 325i e93 2010 that came with a warranty momentum any how 2 days after buying the car a Tyre sensor went so i took it to my local garage and explained that i wanted to use the warranty,

the garage said no they didn't want to deal with them as past issues, but they went ahead and the bill was £170.

the warranty said yes ok we will pay for this but the garage wanted me to pay for it and get a refund of the warranty company which was fine for me but the warranty company will only pay out to V.A.T registered garages...

i'm still waiting on the cheque to come through....

You did very well.

I though the warranties had a period where they wouldn't pay out, something like up to 7 days after collecting the car?

  • Don't buy cars you can't afford to run. A depreciated car may cost "Fiesta money" to buy but you'll never run it for Fiesta running costs.
  • Stick 5% of the "new" cost of the car in a teapot on the mantle-piece each year for maintenance. With a bit of luck you'll come out better than that.

In the case of the car in question this would mean me putting aside £8500 per annum, whereas the manufacturer's extended warranty is £3200. I prefer the warranty option, I think.

I had something of a similar experience with a Seat Leon I purchased, maybe 10 years ago, it was sold with an AA gold warranty which at the time I thought must be good, had a few issues with the car including a boost pipe splitting and later a turbo failing and on both occasions it was the same where I had to pay out and make a claim retrospectively. Also they only covered a claim upto £1000 at the time and the Turbo was more than that so I was still out of pocket.

I don't give any value to aftermarket warranties anymore.

The only used car warranties worth having are Approved Used vehicle warranties. The other third party warranties I’ve had have all been pure st.

Totally agree. Many don't read the T&C's, for the most part just about everything is excluded.
We just warrant our cars ourselves for 3 months and apart from wear and tear items (pads/tyres/ clutch plate ect) we cover most things .
My daughter wanted a specific car which I couldn't source so bought from a main Ford dealer but again this came with their own comprehensive warranty not from a warranty company.

I purchased a Volvo S40 Sport about 5 years ago from an Alfa Specialist which came with an RAC Warranty, after about a month the alternator went, I was towed back to the original garage and alternator replaced under warranty.

I also recently bought a Fiat 500, the dealer was pushing for me to take out the warranty through them, after reading through it, due to the age of the car (10 years old) I realised that any claim I would have to pay 50% of and was capped @ £1000.
Dealer couldn't understand why I didn't want to take it out for £300....
